Ethan + Leila, a Gorgeous Hacienda Doña Andrea Wedding

Ethan and Leila made it official this past fall with the most gorgeous day just outside of Santa Fe. These East Coast babes’ love story was a decade long in the making and dang was it the most perfect beginning to their new chapter.

Leila and Ethan first met over 11 years ago in Seattle when they were both working at Club Monaco. Leila, who was in training, noticed Ethan looking at her and he immediately broke the ice by trying on a fur hat and asking for her opinion on it (they’ve been together ever since this cute little interaction!). Flash forward about 10 years to a trip back to Seattle after moving to the East Coast and these hunnies got engaged! Ethan proposed to Leila on the very same bench in Madison Park where they both realized they were in love with each other so many years ago (talk about the most cinematic full circle moment of all time).

These lovers knew that the Southwest was the most divine place to make it official and dreamed up the most stunning day at Hacienda Doña Andrea. Along with their tiny baby Quinn, Ethan and Leila held one of the most beautiful fall celebrations we’ve ever seen. From Leila’s bold, yet soft bridal glam by the Betty Rose and A. Salon teams to the incomparable floral design by Floral Fetish to the most perfect rooftop views, this day was everything and then some.

Give us all the epic, romantic, and downright breathtaking wedding days, we’re so beyond obsessed!

Caleb + Erin, an Ethereal Hacienda Doña Andrea Wedding

Every season we get to be around some of the most wonderful humans on the planet, but once in a great while we get to meet couples that truly leave us speechless in the best way possible. Caleb and Erin are two souls who truly embody everything we believe about love, kindness, compassion, and beauty. Being a tiny part of their magnificent August day was one of the greatest gifts we received last season.

Long before they graced us with their presence, Caleb and Erin were both in college at Doane University in Create, Nebraska when they met each other by chance at a dance club on campus. They ended up performing in a small show together, but fell out of touch afterwards. A few years later, Caleb and Erin once again crossed paths while at a bar, this time through mutual friends, and hit it off. Erin, being the absolute QUEEN she is, decided to shoot her shot and went in for a kiss just as the bartender announced last call. Caleb sent Erin a Snapchat the very next and the rest is truly history.

A few years down the road in early 2020, Erin made the journey down to Albuquerque to visit Caleb, not knowing that he had been planning to propose to her during her trip. After his initial masterplan of proposing at Tent Rocks fell through due to closures, Caleb secretly coordinated with their friends and family to change plans and took Erin up on a little hike in the Sandia Mountains. After convincing Erin to bring along her camera to take a few photos using the self-timer, Caleb popped the question to which Erin said YES (and he captured it all on camera, just like Erin had always dreamed of).

In the summer of 2021, these angels made it last name official at one of our favorite spots near Santa Fe, Hacienda Doña Andrea. This joyful day was truly plucked out of a movie, Erin and Caleb’s celebration was one that touched everyone present. Wedding designer extraordinaire Molly Donovan made this dream day go off without a hitch while the babes at Manmade and Sage created florals that perfectly blended modern elegance, Southwestern flair, and under-the-sea vibes. On top of this, Erin’s bridal style was ethereal beyond belief; she included soft glam by Ashley of Betty Rose by Alanna and Jewel Hair Design alongside an effortlessly divine Alena Leena gown. And if their details weren’t enough, Caleb and Erin’s ceremony had everyone in tears when they expressed their unending love for each other. Caleb and Erin finished off their unforgettable day with romantics on the roof (!!!!) and a reception filled with incredible food and timeless music. Truth be told, not even a little bit of rainfall could stop these hunnies from partying it up all night long in the name of love.

We’ll forever have the most love and gratitude for these babes and for their little August day. Caleb and Erin, we adore you guys, let’s do it all again soon?

Wedding Inspo - Dogs in Weddings

When it comes to weddings and elopements, there’s one guest we adore above all: dogs. We are absolutely smitten each time one of our couples includes their sweet fur babies in their special day and always have to squeeze in a few extra photos (and pets) with them.

No matter the type of wedding, we truly believe that including dogs should be a YES every single time. From the biggest, most elegant days to the quieter, more intimate nuptials, pups really do make everything that much more fun and exciting. We love seeing these precious furry angels ‘get ready’ with their parents, be a part of the ceremony, and (of course) be the star of any and all portraits.

If you’re on the fence about including your pups in your wedding or elopement, this is your sign to do it and to bring us with you!!

Wedding Inspo - Winter Weddings + Elopements

The temperature might be getting more and more chilly, but we know that winter weddings and elopements always bring the heat. Even though we don’t capture a ton of cold weather celebrations, the ones that we get to be a part of are so incredibly divine.

Winter nuptials are not only insanely beautiful, they’re also deeply serene. From the cozy, romantic little moments to the way this time of year just ushers in those quiet, intimate gatherings, weddings in the coldest part of the year are beyond enchanting.

Keeping our fingers crossed for even more of these magical days in the future, we’re forever in love with celebrations of love in the middle of winter.

Wedding Inspo - Bouquet Inspo Third Edition

No matter what kind of celebration we’re capturing, we know that there’s guaranteed to be some variety of magical florals involved. For us, bouquets always take the cake on wedding and elopement days, these beauties say so much about a couple, their nuptials, and their love story.

From the tiniest blooms to the biggest florals, bouquets are always one of our favorite details. Whether they’re dainty and soft or bold and bright, bouquets know how to steal the show. We love seeing our couples chose the most elegant, classic florals or even opting for something modern, colorful, and completely out-of-the-box.

2021’s bouquets were the downright dreamiest, we can’t wait to see what 2022 and beyond have in store for our floral-loving hearts!!!!

Zac + Shelly, a Stunning Hacienda Doña Andrea Wedding

When Austin sweethearts Zac and Shelly celebrated their marriage at Hacienda Doña Andrea this summer, it was definitely one of the most unique, beautiful days out there. These two made their wedding day completely their own and we are so in love with it all.

Zac and Shelly met several years ago through mutual friends and got engaged on New Years Eve of 2018. Zac proposed to Shelly at midnight on the rooftop of Austin Central Library during a New Years bash. Soon after, these cuties just knew that New Mexico was the most perfectly magical place to make it official.

These babes decided on one of our favorite locations on earth, Hacienda Doña Andrea, because of its spectacular views and cozy vibes. And even though they had to push back their special day an entire year, Zac and Shelly still put so much of their own personal style into their beautiful June day. Shelly, who was also the dreamiest bride btw, created almost all of the decor (just peep that insane seating chart and all of the gorgeous reception signage) and it was truly straight out of our wildest boho-southwestern dreams. In addition to adding a ton of unique touches on their day, Shelly and Zac also opted to create some of their traditions, such as walking with each other down the aisle, and getting rid of some of the usual traditions they weren’t in love with (tbh every single couple should do this!). They embraced the moody skies and rain for not only the sweetest romantics, but for the most epic dance party of the summer.

We were so beyond grateful to be tiny part of this extremely special day, cheers to Zac + Shelly forever and ever!!!

Wedding Inspo - Top 5 Santa Fe Wedding Venues

Being from the gorgeous state of New Mexico, we spend a whole lot of time in our beautiful capital city of Santa Fe. We picked our top five places to tie the knot in The City Different and, dang, are they dreamy.

From the adobe-adorned plaza to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to way out in the desert, there are so many uniquely stunning places to say “I do” in and around Santa Fe. We adore spending time at La Fonda on the Plaza and La Posada de Santa Fe, both of which are located right near the heart of the city and have the most divine, historic architecture. We’re also head-over-heels for all the venues out in the wilds of New Mexico. From Georgia O’Keeffe’s beloved gem Ghost Ranch to the the hidden mountain beauty of Four Seasons Santa Santa Fe to the eclectic, wildly unique vibes of Hacienda Doña Andrea, couples have a plethora of ethereal, Southwestern spots to make it last name official.

Vendor Feature - Bagels' Florals

Each wedding season we’re lucky enough to work with a vast amount of talented wedding vendors and creatives, but we’ve felt extremely grateful to have crossed paths with Abigail of Bagels’ Florals just two short years ago. Not only is this amazing florist beyond her years in talent, she’s one of the brightest, most inspirational souls we know. We knew that we couldn’t let 2020 end without featuring her ethereal, colorful and exquisite work.

We are always beyond excited for every single celebration we get to capture that features Bagels’ work. A true artist at heart, every single bouquet, boutonnière, installment, and arrangement she creates is done with care, intention, and a passion to make the world a brighter place. We were especially honored to capture Bagels’ first two bouquet wedding ( a very special moment for her, an LGBTQ florist) this year for our lovers Brittany + Angie and she did a tremendously gorgeous job (we’re honestly still obsessed with her creations from that sweet little backyard wedding).

Beyond simply being an incredibly gifted florist and gardener, Bagels is also a major community leader in the New Mexico wedding industry. She consistently uses her platform to speak up for social change and action, inspiring other vendors and community members (especially us!) to do the same. We’re consistently blown away by how much love and passion Bagels holds for making New Mexico, and truthfully this world, a more compassionate accepting place for everyone.

We feel so increasingly fortunate to even know someone as talented, smart, and driven as Bagels and we know that everyone will continued to be inspired by this amazing human being.

Wedding Inspo - Wedding Planning Advice from Just Lovely Weddings

If there’s one thing we’ve learned so far in 2020, its to expect the unexpected and to embrace joy where we find it. Luckily for us, and for a ton of our couples, Lauren of Just Lovely Weddings and Darling Details Rentals has been an absolute angel in guiding everyone through it all.

This wedding coordinator queen gave us some insight on what couples are doing to still celebrate love during a pandemic, how to deal with planning a wedding/elopement in the face of uncertainty, and what to expect in the future of weddings!

Alicia Lucia Photography: Long before 2020 and all of its challenges, how did Just Lovely Weddings and Darling Details Rentals come to be?

Just Lovely: I got started with events in 2012, when I worked as a catering manager for a small hotel. I had a series of similar roles in the industry until early 2015, when I started Just Lovely and took on my first wedding that summer. It’s crazy to think that 2020 would’ve been/is my 6th season as an independent wedding planner & coordinator. Near the end of 2016 an industry colleague asked me if I wanted to take over Darling Details, and I have been working to grow our rental collection since then. I’ve loved being a part of so many special days, sometimes for both Just Lovely & Darling Details, and sometimes for just one or the other.

ALP: With the major shifts of 2020, what are more and more weddings starting to look like?

JL: Every wedding is different, and the needs of each couple reflects that. None of us wanted this to happen, and it’s just terrible for everyone. I am so grateful that most of our clients have decided to postpone, but I also get why some couldn’t. A lot of couples have decided to elope this year and have a party later on when they feel it’s safe. Some have decided to downsize significantly and have very intimate ceremonies and go to dinner after. The best decision right now is the one that feels most comfortable to the couple.

ALP: How is Just Lovely changing and pivoting during this time?

JL: My biggest goal in all of this has been to show up for our affected clients, providing advice and basically just guiding them through this challenging situation and showing them that they aren’t alone. We’ve helped them move dates and also transition to elopements. This is new territory for all of us and I am grateful to be in a position where I can guide my couples on the best options for them.

ALP: How should/can couples plan a wedding during a pandemic?

JL: My advice is to trust your feelings. Planning right now is a challenge due to uncertainty, so if you’re starting to feel stressed or anxious about your date (and if gatherings will be allowed then) start to consider a backup plan and discuss options with your vendors. Also, the wedding industry has taken such a hit, so try to be patient with your vendors. Most of us are in this industry because it’s where our hearts are, and our lives have been turned upside down. Any grace that we’re shown is appreciated even more right now.

ALP: How do you think this is going to change the industry?

JL: With only smaller celebrations being allowed, many couples have had to transition to more intimate gatherings than they would’ve originally considered. I think that this shift has started to show couples that, truly, all that’s needed to get married is a couple of witnesses and an officiant. Everything else should be fun, so hopefully this will alleviate some of the pressure to plan in the future, and help guide couples to plan events that are meaningful to them.

ALP: What has been the hardest part of this pandemic for your business? And, conversely, what has been the most rewarding part for Just Lovely?

JL: The hardest part has been our hearts breaking for our couples whose plans changed overnight; they had to make some really tough decisions, but at the end of the day I think they all did what was best for them and their guests. The second hardest part has been losing the majority of our income for the year, for both businesses, while expenses did not change.

The most rewarding part has been seeing the value of what a planner does, and how much we can truly help the couples we work with. Also, forcing myself to consider different sources of revenue and opportunities will make the businesses stronger in the long run.

ALP: What are your goals for Just Lovely past this pandemic and into the future?

JL: My goal past the pandemic is to continue to show up for our couples. I have been thinking a lot about how I can provide more resources and more value, and have been working on new processes and content to be able to do that. In the future, I would also love to get into planning more corporate events as well!

ALP: Finally what do you miss the most about big weddings? And what do you love the most about little weddings?

JL: I love weddings of all sizes! What I miss most about weddings in general is seeing the love and friendship that surrounds a couple on their wedding day - that’s what is most important. I feel like there has been this pressure to live up to this standard of weddings that was exhausting for everyone. I hope that at the end of this we all just remember that weddings are celebrations, and they’re meant to be fun and filled with love.

What We Heart About Santa Fe Weddings

Anyone who knows our team has seen how much we adore Santa Fe weddings and all of the amazing little spots where we’ve captured our couples and their love stories. From its vast architecture to it rich culture, Santa Fe is a gem among the Southwest and we feel so dang lucky to spend so much time exploring it.

One of the most iconic locations for weddings is, of course, the Santa Fe Plaza, but what many don’t realize is the vast number of different venues of all shapes and sizes for weddings.

Do you want a huge wedding with a parade around the historic plaza followed by an outdoor reception? There are several hotels including La Fonda on the Plaza, The Inn and Spa at Loretto, and La Posada de Santa Fe that are pros at these celebrations.

Or are you a bit more low-key and want an intimate wedding at a stunning hacienda or tiny inn? Spots like Hacienda Corta Caro and The Inn of the Five Graces are the coziest of wedding nooks.

Maybe you want a venue with an iconic past or one that’s even an art gallery? Places like Peters Projects at Gerald Peters Gallery, SITE Santa Fe, and The Santa Fe Opera are just a few of those unique, art focused spaces.

There’s even two incredibly famous churches right on the plaza, Loretto Chapel and The Cathedral Basilica of St Francis of Assisi, for more traditional weddings.

And what about places for couples wanting to venture a bit outside of the usual Santa Fe scene for venues nestled among the mountains and vast New Mexican landscape? Venues like La Mesita Ranch Estate, Las Campanas, Hacienda Doña Andrea, and Four Seasons Santa Fe all provide amazing views and details for any and all weddings they host.

Not only does Santa Fe have so many amazing venues, but so many unique New Mexican and Southwestern traditions have stayed in style season after season in The City Different. Every season mariachi parades around the plaza take center stage, tequila donkeys like sweet Conchita make an appearance at receptions, and all the chili, cactus, and skull details accent every inch of weddings. We love how couples from near and far fully embrace all the special little pieces of Santa Fe that we have such a soft spot for. And we can’t help but absolutely love it even more when our lovers from previous wedding seasons continue to visit Santa Fe year after year just to always have a part of the Southwest with them.

In our eyes, any venue in Santa Fe is the perfect venue and every tradition is beyond special. We’ve been so fortunate to capture a huge amount of couples in the most unique locations and honestly, we can’t wait to explore new places with brand new love stories.

Wedding Inspo - Sweetheart Tables

For weddings both big and small, we love any details that can make the day a touch more intimate for our couples, so of course we have a lot of love for precious little sweetheart tables. Seen in both large weddings and even the tiniest of elopements, sweetheart tables let couples steal away a few moments together while still being a part of the celebrations.

While sweetheart tables aren’t seen in every single wedding, they can add a special touch to a couple’s day. They can provide a sense of intimacy among the ongoing festivities as well as a focal point for guests. A sweetheart table can also give a couple or a wedding planner/designer the opportunity to create an additional decorative space that complements the entire wedding day!

We’ve seen these cute little tables decked out in everything from elaborate boho furniture and eye-catching florals to simple and elegant accents. We love getting to see a tiny hint of a couple’s personality with these reception staples.

Scroll through and maybe you’ll find the perfect sweetheart table with just the right accents, we can’t wait to capture more of these darling tables!

Wedding Inspo - Spring Florals

Even though we’re staying indoors a whole lot more this spring, we can’t help but be extremely inspired by all of the nature in full bloom we still get to witness. We’ve found our favorite spring infused color palettes from some of the sweetest wedding days to add a little bit of light to the blog!

Although some of these weddings weren’t necessarily spring weddings, these florals still made us daydream of the perfect April or May wedding, full of muted pastels, bright whites, or even softly colorful tones. From sage and white bouquets to blush tinted to arrangements to to even subtly bright floral arches, these flowers still light up our little worlds to this day.

Here’s to some of the beauty that we can continue to find in our world every single day, we can’t wait to capture more stunning florals like this in the future!

Wedding Inspo - Bridal Bouquets

Wedding trends may come and go, but one thing that’s here to stay forever are dreamy bridal bouquets! We see a ton of these beauties each season and they come in just about every style, from the chic romantic arrangements to the wild boho stunners to larger-than-life ultra colorful varieties. We’re not history buffs, but we wanted to share just a few of our favorite facts about bridal bouquets!!!

The tradition of brides carrying bouquets down the aisle (and, in our case, all over) on wedding days stems back to ancient Roman times. Back then, bouquets were not only made of herbs, spices, and grains, but they were thought to ward off evil spirits and signify new beginnings. However, more modern floral bouquets didn’t pop up in the wedding scene until the mid 1800s during the Victorian era and tended to only include roses (we can’t deny how much we love this stunner of a flower). During this time period, sending specific flowers (based on their meanings) to a lover became increasingly popular, leading many brides to pick flowers for their bridal bouquets that best reflected their ideals.

Flashing forward to the 21st century and bridal bouquets come in soooo many amazing colors, varieties, and sizes that we’re truly overwhelmed by all the beauty! We can’t wait to see what new twists our 2020 brides will take with their own florals. Cheers to hundreds of more insanely beautiful bouquets!!!
