Wedding Inspo - Winter Weddings + Elopements

The temperature might be getting more and more chilly, but we know that winter weddings and elopements always bring the heat. Even though we don’t capture a ton of cold weather celebrations, the ones that we get to be a part of are so incredibly divine.

Winter nuptials are not only insanely beautiful, they’re also deeply serene. From the cozy, romantic little moments to the way this time of year just ushers in those quiet, intimate gatherings, weddings in the coldest part of the year are beyond enchanting.

Keeping our fingers crossed for even more of these magical days in the future, we’re forever in love with celebrations of love in the middle of winter.

Davis Family, a Precious White Sands Session

Earlier this summer, we headed to Southern New Mexico for a pretty evening at White Sands National Park with the Davis family. These three were the absolute sweetest to capture, we’re fully obsessed with family sessions at National Parks.

We braved some of the craziest weather with the Davis family, but dang was it worth. We captured the moodiest skies over White Sands and it was truly something incredibly unique. Bring on all the sessions at all the insanely pretty locations!!!!

2020 - Moments with Alicia Lucia Photography

2020 was by far one of the most challenging years our team has ever faced, yet through all the difficult descisons and make-or-break moments, we still found the light on the other side of it all.

After an intense global pandemic forced our weddings and shoots to a screeching halt, we weren’t sure what to do, but somehow we found a new path and gained a better perspective on our lives, our business, and our community. We found new ways to capture weddings/elopements and support our couples as they navigated this insane year. And we also found even more opportunities to create beauty through styled shoots and portrait sessions. If one thing is sure, 2020 reminded us of why we set out to do what we do in the first place: love. Watching love win over and over and over again this year, despite all of the odds was something to behold. And we once again fell in love with with what we have the immense privilege of doing, capturing those undeniably beautiful moments of pure joy.

The biggest thank you from the bottom of our hearts goes out to every single couple, family, and individual who continually put their trust in us during a year where everything was uncertain, yet everything mattered even more. And to all of our vendor friends, thank you for riding this one out with us, we’ve never had so much faith in the wedding community as we do right here and now.

No year will ever be quite like 2020, and while we’re grateful to see beacons of hope at start of the new year, we’re forever be grateful for the year that gave us all a chance to start anew and to believe in the magic that is love.

Wedding Inspo - Old Town Weddings and Elopements

If there’s one part of town we love getting to rediscover over and over every season its beautiful little Old Town Albuquerque. Even though wedding season looked a whole lot different this year, we loved every second spent in this enchanting little area capturing tiny nuptials.

Besides being incredibly iconic, Old Town is a place that oozes magic and charm around every single corner. Whether its an intimate wedding at the ever so quaint Old Town Farm, a grand wedding at the historic San Felipe de Neri Church right on the plaza, a quiet elopement at The Desert Compass, or a stunning ceremony at Hotel Albuquerque, we always find something new to love about this special part of town. We love getting to see new little venues thrive and older venue get lots of well-deserved love all in the same part of town.

We’re so excited for more enchanting days in this hidden gem of a place, cheers to many more years of our beloved Old Town!!!

Nicole, Maternity + Newborn Sessions

Even though its been a while since we’ve captured a maternity or a newborn session, we knew that we had to make both moments extra special for new mama Nicole!

Nicole and our girl Alicia are friends that go way back, becoming besties nearly 20 years ago! They’ve made a ton of amazing little memories along the way, but for Alicia nothing is quite as memorable as this moment right here! The pregnancy and birth of Nicole’s baby girl, Sophia, was a major highlight of 2020 and it brought so much joy and happiness. Alicia is so proud of her amazing friend turned mama, Nicole, and is beyond excited to see her on this new journey of motherhood!

About a month ago we ventured out into the stunning bosque for the prettiest maternity session with Nicole and her sweet pup Kanga. Our hair and makeup angel Genica helped Nicole glow just a little extra and it was such a special evening to be a part of.

Just a few weeks later, heavenly little Sophia came into this world and we once again had the privilege of capturing beautiful Nicole being the incredible mama she was always meant to be, along with her amazing sister, for the most perfect newborn session.

Nicole, we can’t wait to see how your love for precious Sophia grows, we love and admire you beyond belief!

Fathers' Day with ALP's Favorite Dads

Today more than ever we want to give a little extra love to all of the amazing dads, father figures, and dads-to-be that we’ve met over the years!

Wedding days are that much more special because of these wonderful men and all the love and guidance they bring our couples on their big days and beyond! We love getting to see all of the father-daughter first looks (and even a few flower girl and groom first looks with our grooms who are already lucky enough to be dads!), those emotional walks down the aisle, and of course parent dances during receptions.

Cheers to all the incredible fathers out there, our world is that much better because of your love and kindness!

7 Mistakes a Bride Makes During Her Wedding Week
A Guide for Brides by Hannah Stevens

Wedding days are meant to be special. It is the time where you celebrate your love with your partner – a day to remember for the rest of your life. If everything doesn’t turn out the way you expect, however, you might remember the stress instead of happiness. Although you cannot control everything, there are some common pitfalls you can avoid to make sure that your wedding goes as planned.

Procrastination

Perhaps the biggest mistake brides make is waiting until the last second to finalize the details of their weddings. Always remember that doing so gives you a small window for beauty treatments, spa days, and wedding rehearsals. Make sure to finalize everything as soon as possible to keep everything on track for a smooth wedding day. Consider making a list of tasks to accomplish before the wedding.

Not Having Hair and Makeup Trial Runs

Waiting until the wedding day to try out your makeup and hairstyle might catch you off-guard. Bear in mind that part of a successful wedding day is feeling as confident and beautiful as you can be, after all, which includes having your hairstyle and mascara in sync. In order to avoid disappointment, always do a trial run of your makeup and hairstyle to ensure that you are satisfied with the way you look.

Hiring the Wrong Photographer

Oftentimes, couples fall into the trap of hiring the wrong photographer. When looking for the right fit, it is crucial to look for someone whose work matches your vision for your wedding day. This is not only to ensure that you will be proud of the images when you post them online but also helps make sure that the images stand up for decades to come when you show them to your children or even your grandchildren.

Scheduling Bachelorette Parties during Wedding Week

Bachelorette parties are exciting. After all, it is the last time to go out with your girls as a single lady. It is a good idea to try and schedule bachelorette parties for at least a few weeks before the wedding. Alternatively, you can schedule a bachelorette party during the wedding week – but make sure that it does not involve heavy partying or drinking as both activities can leave you feeling less than your best while walking down the aisle.

Failing To Tie Up Legal Ends

Failure to tie-up legal ends is an expensive problem. So, make a checklist of all the legal paperwork needed before your wedding day. Also, don’t forget to check the local laws and obtain a marriage license within a set timeframe. Keep in mind that laws differ from state to state, too, so you’ll want to either work with a professional or make sure you’re reading regulations for your specific state.

Doing It All

Every bride wants to be in control of their wedding. Unfortunately, not letting others step in and help can prove detrimental to the success of the event. During the wedding week, make sure to step back and delegate tasks like finalizing seating charts. Better yet, you can hire a professional to take care of the little details of the wedding.

Not Getting Enough Rest

In the week of the wedding, it is quite normal for a bride to be anxious, but don’t let it keep you up all night. Lack of sleep often results in exhaustion, a weak immune system, skin problems, and difficulty concentrating. Always stay well-rested and follow a sleep guide to avoid compromising your big day.

James + Lauren, a Los Poblanos Wedding

Earlier this summer we celebrated long-time sweethearts and all around kind-hearted lovers James and Lauren. Even though it rained hard after their ceremony, these two were still the sweetest, easiest people to capture.

James and Lauren met 11 years ago right before their junior year of high school and haven’t been apart since. High atop the Sandia Mountains (and during Balloon Fiesta season!) James proposed to Lauren. They currently live in Arizona with their pup Gouda and their kitty Chamisa and work as teachers.

This gorgeous summer wedding was full as dainty details and soft tones. From Lauren’s delicate bridal jewelry to the stunning half floral arch from our gal pals at Floriography Flowers to the subtle reception details, everything about this day was gently romantic and oh so perfect. The rain didn’t even stop James and Lauren from adventuring with us around the Los Poblanos’ gorgeous grounds for some tender romantics. Cheers to the cutest little couple around, we adore you guys so much!!

It’s about dang time we feature one of the baddest in the game: the one and only Genica Lee! There is just so much to say about this precious little love and not enough time or space on our little corner of the internet. Beyond Genica’s IMMENSE talent for hair AND makeup, and her timeliness, and professionalism she brings on a bride’s wedding day, there lies one of the kindest, most radiant, supportive, and simply wonderful humans we’ve ever met.

Alicia and Genica go way back when to the very first time Alicia first dipped her toes into the editorial side of the wedding world. She was one of the few wedding vendors who actually gave us a shot and not only shared her talents, but poured her heart out by styling hair for our first ever editorial wedding shoot.

Genica not only provides our brides with a 5 star service serving the most gorgeous, glam wedding looks we’ve ever seen but she also does it with the sweetest, brightest, and most joyful disposition. She is a light that shines oh so bright and here at Alicia Lucia Photography we are so grateful to work alongside someone like G who gives her all to our brides and does it always with the biggest, sweetest smile! La Fonda on the Plaza - A Venue Feature

One of the best things about our sweet little job is how much time we get to spend in Santa Fe every year. Our capital city lies just to the north of our home base of Albuquerque and there is seriously magic around every corner of The City Different. From quaint adobe buildings to the historic plaza to some of the best New Mexican cuisine in the state, Santa Fe is seriously a gold mine for locals and visitors alike. It comes as no surprise that soooo many of our out of state couples select good old SF as the prime place to tie the knot and their number one destination is our home away from home, iconic La Fonda on the Plaza.

Not only is La Fonda memorable, but it is also incredibly significant to Santa Fe’s history. Initially founded in 1607 as Santa Fe’s first inn, La Fonda’s site is also the oldest hotel corner in the United States of America. However, the building that still stands today and has continually been loved and adored by New Mexicans and travelers alike wasn’t built until 1922. It features architectural influences by Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter and John Gaw Meem including hand carved beams, ethereal stained glass window skylight, and a 25 foot cathedral ceiling. More info on this beautiful space can be found on La Fonda’s website.

We’ve spent a whole lot of time at this very special place over the past few years and we can’t wait to return later on in 2019 for even more beauty.

Mack + Shelby, a Winter Wedding at Four Seasons Santa Fe

Mack and Shelby, where do we even begin? These babes actually went to the same high school, however their paths didn’t cross until they both attended college at Texas A&M. After dating for a bit, the pair separated, only to later on realize how special they were to each other! They reunited and later on decided that it was a forever thing. Mack, being major #husbandgoals, told us that not only is Shelby beautiful and caring, but that she is truly the light of his life. We don’t have enough words (or enough tears) for this sweet little love story!

These babes tied the knot in December 2018 at our favorite, cozy mountain getaway, Four Seasons Santa Fe. With a touch of magic and pure boho glam from Amy and her team at For the Love Events and Rust Vintage, this day was out of this world. We still wish we could keep the velvet accent furniture and neon sign from this day! Our gals at Floriography Flowers came through with the perfect moody, winter floral arrangement and made sure that every single detail was amazing. And besides the amazing design, Mack and Shelby made sure that all of their guests (and vendors too!) were well taken care of for the entire night. These little lovers helped us close out our 2018 wedding season in the most perfect way! Congrats Mr and Mrs Paulson, we love y’all so much!

Shaun + Jessie, a Sarabande Bed and Breakfast Wedding

Last November we captured one of our favorite, intimate weddings of all time at Sarabande Bed and Breakfast. Shaun and Jessie had so many unique details, from a rainbow bouquet to stationary and custom roadrunner pins designed by the groom himself to amazing donuts instead of cake, we’re not even sure which part was our favorite.

These babes met almost a decade ago in Ohio when Jessie was working at a coffee shop and Shaun slowly but surely became one of her favorite regular customers. To her surprise, Shaun started working at the same coffee shop only a few weeks after they initially met! Eight years later, these lovers moved across the country with their pups to our amazing little desert state of New Mexico to start new jobs and a brand new chapter in their lives. In one of the coolest proposal twists we’ve ever heard of, Jessie asked Shaun to marry her with nothing but whiskey and a hair tie (that he even wore for a few days after).

Shaun and Jessie gave us major Jim and Pam vibes with their chill, genuine, down-to-earth love. We will probably never recover from their incredible day. Congrats babes, we love you both so much!!!

Jon + Paige, a Colorful Los Poblanos Wedding

Last November we were so beyond thrilled to head back to our favorite Albuquerque gem, Los Poblanos, for an intimate blush-toned wedding with sweet lovers Jon and Paige. Every second of this sweet day was precious and downright magical!

Long before their wedding, Paige let us know that her and Jon wanted a day that would focus less on all of the usual wedding day details and more on their family and close friends from all over the country. For her, the most important part of the day to capture was all of their loved ones celebrating together for the first time which is one of our favorite things to hear from brides!

Even though details weren’t the focus of this incredibly special day, Paige still managed to awe us with her gorgeous, off-the-shoulder, blush wedding gown and absolutely killer, bright florals from our gal pals over at Viva Flora. And, per usual, our girl Genica Lee made sure that this stunning bride looked absolutely angelic on the first day of being a Mrs.

Jon and Paige, you two were an absolute treat to capture, we’re sooo grateful to be a small part of your new beginning! Cheers to you lovely babes!

Ryan + Cristina, a Prairie Star Wedding

Ryan and Cristina, the most genuine/laid-back lovers on the planet, had the sweetest fall wedding this past October right outside of Albuquerque, NM.

They met in high school (their first moments together involved Ryan copying off of Cristina in Spanish class 😂), but sparks didn’t fly until senior year when Ryan asked Cristina to the homecoming dance.  Even though Cristina completely curved Ryan (by rejecting a kiss), he never gave up on chasing her and, after realizing what a total catch this Ryan was, the rest was history! Years later, Ryan proposed to Cristina in their home only a few days after Ryan spent countless hours picking out the perfect ring.

Ryan and Cristina’s wedding at Prairie Star was full of gorgeous views of the majestic Sandia mountains, amazingly personal details (Ryan’s aunt put together all of the stunning florals for this day!), and the best entertainment around from our friends at Cutmaster Music.  Cristina made the most beautiful bride with her simple, down to earth style and kind aura. These two had everyone (including all of us) absolutely in tears when they read their own vows and shared personal stories of each other. We loved their totally down-to-party, yet sweet bridal party and had so much fun capturing each of them partying it up the entire night. This wedding was extra special as we got the most amazing and ultra gorgeous, golden-hour romantic shots.

Ryan and Cristina, we’re beyond grateful for you two and this day! Cheers to married life cuties!

Styled Sunday - a Fall Bridal Session

For this Styled Sunday, we decided to take it back to 2016 for a glam, yet edgy styled bridal session in Santa Fe with the gorgeous Mara Anderson and an incredible team of vendors. Mixed in with standout pieces were a few whimsical details as well, including macaroons and simple, neutral wedding stationary. Shaun + Jessie, a New Mexico Engagement

Shaun and Jessie adventured with us in the prettiest little New Mexico forest for an ultra sweet engagement session. These lovers have been together for about 8 years and first met in Ohio. Jessie was a barista and Shaun was a customer who Jessie found sooo adorable that she jokingly named him her “customer boyfriend”. To Jessie’s surprise, Shaun started working at the exact same shop a few weeks later on her birthday, setting these two up for the ultimate movie-esque romance. Jumping forward roughly 8 years, these two babes made a cross country move, started new jobs, and found a home together with their three precious fur babies! In the ultimate plot twist with an incredible girl power move, Jessie proposed to Shaun on a warm night in September of 2017. With nothing but a bit of whiskey and a hair tie, Jessie asked Shaun to be her forever (and to give her the best snuggles for the rest of their lives). Shaun even wore the hair tie for a few days after in lieu of a ring. We are sooo excited for their intimate wedding at Sarabande Bed and Breakfast this November!!!

Erik + Jessa, a Tamaya Wedding

Erik and Jessa’s little love story began about six years ago when they met by chance at work and even though Jessa left for a new position in California, her and Erik remained in touch. A few months after Jessa’s move, Erik came to visit her and they’ve been together ever since.

Erik proposed in 2017 while he and Jessa were on vacation in Puerto Vallarta over breakfast on the beach! He put all of the sweet little notes they had wrote to each other over the years into a box that also contained an engagement ring and Jessa was over the moon to say yes!

The ever charming Hyatt Tamaya in Bernallio, New Mexico incorporates both indoor and outdoor wedding aspects, making it the perfect venue choice for these lovers. Erik and Jessa also included Erik’s Scottish ancestry (the Buchanan family) into their ceremony with some of the coolest details! From bagpipe players during cocktail hour to using the Buchanan tartan for Erik and his groomsmen’s pocket squares to custom medallions of the Buchanan crest on each guest’s plate to including Blue Scottish Thistle in all of the florals, these lovers brought an incredible Scottish vibe to their modern, late-summer wedding. Congrats lovers, being a part of your day was sooo incredibly special to us!
