Wedding Inspo - Why We Adore Elopements

Here in New Mexico, our team thrives in shooting the many big, bold, beautiful weddings all over the state, but we also live for the moments when we get to be a part of the sweet, quaint, intimate elopements! Just like larger, more traditional weddings, the main focus is always love, devotion and commitment, however, elopements tend to be much simpler and, of course, much much smaller. Here’s a few reasons why we have a soft spot for elopements!

- Intimacy
While we absolutely love getting to spend the day capturing those huge celebrations, there’s something magical about being alone with a couple sharing their first moments of married life with no one else around. We of course get to see lots of the same emotions as a traditional wedding ceremony, but we get to be even more up close and personal with our couples which makes it that much more meaningful for us behind the cameras.

-Cost
Its no surprise that elopements cost much less than average weddings do and today many couples all over the world are opting for elopements for just this reason. You can still get a stunning gown, a pretty bouquet, and a stellar hair/makeup artist without spending too much cash which is a huge bonus of elopements. In financially hard times, elopements are a great way to still look and feel amazing on your wedding day while still supporting a few small businesses along the way.

-Stress
Most of our wedding seasons consist of pretty big wedding days with some jaw dropping details (from floral installations, to killer reception music, to out of this world bridal fashion), but we know that the stress of putting together days like this might not be for everyone. And for that reason, elopements are a great alternative because a simple, intimate day with just you and your sweetheart (and a photog you both love) doesn’t put any pressure on you to having a larger than life floral arch or entertainment all of your guests will love. You get to focus on something a little bit simpler and a lot longer lasting, your love story and your future together.

-Location
Lastly, a really neat factor about elopements is that they can take place pretty much anywhere your heart desires. You can take a more classic route and head to the courthouse or they can be in the middle of a desert. The world is truly your oyster when it comes to eloping and while we have a few favorite locations that we adore for elopements here in New Mexico, we love seeing how they unfold across the globe.

La Fonda on the Plaza - A Venue Feature

One of the best things about our sweet little job is how much time we get to spend in Santa Fe every year. Our capital city lies just to the north of our home base of Albuquerque and there is seriously magic around every corner of The City Different. From quaint adobe buildings to the historic plaza to some of the best New Mexican cuisine in the state, Santa Fe is seriously a gold mine for locals and visitors alike. It comes as no surprise that soooo many of our out of state couples select good old SF as the prime place to tie the knot and their number one destination is our home away from home, iconic La Fonda on the Plaza.

Not only is La Fonda memorable, but it is also incredibly significant to Santa Fe’s history. Initially founded in 1607 as Santa Fe’s first inn, La Fonda’s site is also the oldest hotel corner in the United States of America. However, the building that still stands today and has continually been loved and adored by New Mexicans and travelers alike wasn’t built until 1922. It features architectural influences by Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter and John Gaw Meem including hand carved beams, ethereal stained glass window skylight, and a 25 foot cathedral ceiling. More info on this beautiful space can be found on La Fonda’s website.

We’ve spent a whole lot of time at this very special place over the past few years and we can’t wait to return later on in 2019 for even more beauty.

Styled Sunday - Desert Lovers

This fall, we asked one of our fan favorite couples, Dillon and Stephanie, to adventure with us into the New Mexico desert for some golden hour magic with a handful of extremely talented vendors. From the stunning florals the gals over at Renegade Floral brought, to Hello Jori’s delicate hand-lettering, to Emerald Pie Bakery’s sweet little personalized macaroons and pies, we were in heaven for one brief little evening.

Besides having amazing style, these lovers even brought their sweet pup Penny along and we were beyond thrilled to capture this sweet little family together! Here’s to more incredible twilight moments with gorgeous couples and stunning details!

Tyler + Jordan, a Summer Wedding at La Fonda

Tyler and Jordan’s sweet, intimate wedding at La Fonda on the Plaza this past August was nothing short of absolutely dreamy and incredibly special to capture.

These lovers met in middle school and dated in high school before parting ways, only to both end up in Arizona years later. They gave their love another go and realized that it was meant to be! Tyler proposed on a beach in Cancun while these lovers were on vacation, two days before Jordan’s birthday!

For these babes, their destination wedding in Santa Fe was focused on family and having everyone enjoy New Mexico’s amazing little capital city.  Jordan’s uncle Art officiated the ceremony and they added a unity candle, which symbolizes unity in a marriage, as special ceremony detail. With a little help from the insanely talented Lauren and her team at Just Lovely Weddings, these  two had everything from a mariachi led parade in the Santa Fe Plaza to the world’s most beautiful desert table, to a reception loved by everyone!

Even though it rained, our girls Ashley & Jen captured Tyler and Jordan’s tender, subtle love perfectly (especially that ethereal first look on La Fonda’s iconic staircase) ! We adored this day so much, congrats babes!
