Props

ln terms of props, we have a wide range of baskets, blankets, wraps, backdrops, floordrops, stools, we also have a big plastic "1", as well as polka dot letters "O", "N", "E". We have a polka dot "2", a mini chalkboard, as well as a bigger chalkboard.

We welcome and encourage you to bring any other props you may want to incorporate in your session such as balloons, cakes, special family heirlooms, customized gifts, etc.

Try to schedule your portrait session for your children during a time of day that works best for your young ones.

Horray!! The hard part is done and out of the way: you booked your child's portrait session, we found a time and date that works for both of us, and you have invested in capturing these ever fleeting, precious memories of your little ones! Go you! But truly, we are super appreciative of you for knowing how important it is to document life & are sincerely grateful to you for booking your portrait session with US! We know you have your options when it comes to photography here in New Mexico, and for that we are so thankful you have chosen us! We cant wait for our session together!

From here it is smooth sailing! The next step would be to start brainstorming colors and themes and getting your wardrobe picked out for your shoot. I've compiled a few examples of fabulous wardrobe choices from past clients, as well as inspiration boards i've found online that have helped my clients visually, in coming up with a fantastic color pallet!

Bring a snack or drink just in case, and throw in a few favorite toys or comfort items that you don’t mind including in the portraits if that should become necessary. Let us know about any likes or dislikes your child has that we should be aware of.

Wardrobe

Although we do have space for dressing yourselves and/or children available, we have found that some children (especially in the 18-36 month range) are easily overwhelmed with the portrait experience. If you think this may be the case, you may want to dress the child at home or in the car before coming into the studio in order to ease any possible upset clothing changes may cause.

Infants do best with clothing without loose collars or panels that may pop up and cover their faces, especially if they are unable to sit up unassisted. Overalls are best reserved for children who can sit well or even stand, as young infants tend to “sink” into them.

Above all, try to relax! If your child senses that you are stressed, they are more likely to become anxious about the portrait experience. We love children and understand their individual complexities and will do everything we can to bring out the best in your child.

If you’d like to individualize a bit more, think about adding accessories. Scarves, hats, jackets, and jewelry can dramatically affect the stylistic feel of the portraits.

We do provide a variety of clothing and accessory options such as lace rompers, headbands, pearls, and hats for children. You are welcome to use anything we have in the studio, but if this is especially important, please call in advance to be sure we have what you are looking for in your child’s size.
