No matter what kind of celebration we’re capturing, we know that there’s guaranteed to be some variety of magical florals involved. For us, bouquets always take the cake on wedding and elopement days, these beauties say so much about a couple, their nuptials, and their love story.

Andrew + Natalie, a Camp Lucy Wedding

Even though Andrew and Natalie only recently said “I do” this spring, their journey together over the past few years has been nothing short of incredibly sweet and inspiring.

Long before these Texas hunnies made it last name official, they met through two mutual friends in Albuquerque. Natalie and Andrew first hit it off during a casual dinner with their friends Austin and Taylor (aka two of the best matchmakers around), but even though Natalie thought Andrew was handsome, she initially turned him down for a follow up date. However, Andrew’s persistence paid off when he asked Natalie out a second time and she said yes. They grabbed beers together, exchanged life stories, and realized that they had a special connection.

About four years later while living in Texas, Andrew knew that he wanted to propose, but the universe had other plans. In early 2019, Andrew was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and had to put off his initial proposal. After a successful fight, Andrew recovered fully and made plans to propose to Natalie on New Year’s Eve in Austin. However, once again, the universe intervened, but this time Natalie was sick that evening so Andrew once again pushed back his plans. Finally, in January of 2020, Andrew proposed in the gorgeous Texas Hill Country house he and Natalie were building for their next chapter together.

After 2020 threw even more curveballs, these sweethearts were finally able to do the dang thing in pretty little Dripping Springs, TX on the most gorgeous April day. From the most delicate bridal details to lush, springtime florals, to dreamy reception details (just peep that champagne trolley AND stunning neon signage) to spending so much time in that divine golden hour light for romantics, Andrew and Natalie made sure their day was beyond perfect and utterly enchanting. We adored every last second of this unreal Texas Hill Country day with these soulmates and were so honored to be a tiny part of their remarkable journey together.

Cheers to finding a love that endures all obstacles and to embracing every single step of life, we you love so much Mr. + Mrs. Hisey!!!!

Over the past few seasons a newer trend, that we think is here to stay (!), has become a favorite for so many of our couples. Boho chic weddings and elopements bring together maximalist wedding vibes with unique details for some of the most wildly gorgeous days we’ve ever encountered.

Pampas grass, neon signage, hand-stitched wedding gowns, and that carefree-kind-of-love bring these stellar celebrations together. Stuart + Kelly, a Divine Texas Wedding at Camp Hideaway

Last year may have been one with an unbelievable amount of twists and turns, but dang were we grateful that 2020 brought us Stuart and Kelly. Besides being two of the most resilient, wonderful people around, these two knew how to throw the ultimate party to make it official for the third (!!!!!) time last December and we loved being a part of their journey towards tying the knot surrounded by their friends and family.

You might remember these Texas lovers from their dreamy Los Poblanos Elopement last June, but you may not know that these two had actually already made it official with an informal, courthouse ceremony in Odessa, Texas. Soon after, they journeyed to New Mexico for an intimate wedding with only their parents and three close friends at Los Poblanos and let’s just say it was one of our favorite days. We instantly became BFFs with Kelly (and Stuart too!) and got to capture some of the prettiest romantics around our beloved Los Poblanos. However, after life forced these two to once again reshuffle their wedding plans, they invited us Fredericksburg, Texas (aka gorgeous Texas Hill Country) for a December bash we’ll never forget.

Despite it being winter, we couldn’t have asked for a better days for Stuart and Kelly to say “I do” for the third time at beautiful Camp Hideaway. With Kelly’s impeccable eye for design and styling, this December day was filled with some of the most divine details around, from the moody, yet Southwestern inspired color palette of our dreams to the most stellar pampas grass florals by Stems Floral Design to a modern yet elegant Rue de Seine bridal gown (complete with the most killer denim jacket) to little hints of the journey these lovers had shared together in 2020 (especially those custom coozies and that incredibly sweet heart locket on Kelly’s bouquet). We even got to steal Stuart and Kelly away for just a few more stunning romantics with that endless Texas horizon as the ultimate backdrop. These two capped off their pretty ceremony with the dance party of the year and made their getaway in the coolest vintage Cadillac ever!

And even though they went through it all in 2020, our gal Kelly reminds us (and every single couple out there) that, “The wedding does not define your marriage. I know it's so much easier said than done, but don't sweat the small stuff! Go into it knowing things aren't always going to go as planned, and roll with the punches.”

Third time truly was the charm for Stuart and Kelly and damn, were we glad to be a part of every moment of it. We’re so grateful for these two, both of their incredible wedding days, and for one of the most unexpected, yet amazing little friendships we’ve ever made with a couple. Cheers to the Sutters and to doing the dang thing no matter what!

Wedding Inspo - a Colorful, Disco-Infused Austin Elopement

Earlier this month we had the raddest time in our home away from home, Austin, with the funkiest, most colorfully-bold styled elopement ever. Every last inch of this day was absolutely astonishing and, truth be told, we’re still on cloud nine over it all.

This amazing day kicked off at the perfect blend of modern-chic and ultimate blank slate wedding venue, Camino Real Ranch. This gem of location is the most incredibly place to make just about any wedding vision come to life. Wedding planner and stylist extraordinaire, XO Moreau Weddings, made this day one for the books with the most perfect details and vision. And ICYMI, we’re still very obsessed with the bright, avant-garde florals from Good Seed Floral Co mixed with the most stunning details from Owl and Envelope, Moon Tower Rentals, and Table Manners Texas. To top it all off, Feathers and Frosting created the most astonishing cakes adorned with tiny disco ball details and the most wild shag rug texture.

And if all of the beautifully crafted details weren’t enough, we got to hang out with the most fun, insanely beautiful models on the planet. We adored the way our bride, Rachel, absolutely glowed in that Chosen by KYHA gown from our friends at Unbridaled and we loved how dashing and fun our sweet groom Noah was from start to finish.

To all the wild lovers out there, we’re so excited to create even more stellar days like this one in the future, we can’t wait to get groovy with all you.

2020 - Moments with Alicia Lucia Photography

2020 was by far one of the most challenging years our team has ever faced, yet through all the difficult descisons and make-or-break moments, we still found the light on the other side of it all.

After an intense global pandemic forced our weddings and shoots to a screeching halt, we weren’t sure what to do, but somehow we found a new path and gained a better perspective on our lives, our business, and our community. We found new ways to capture weddings/elopements and support our couples as they navigated this insane year. And we also found even more opportunities to create beauty through styled shoots and portrait sessions. If one thing is sure, 2020 reminded us of why we set out to do what we do in the first place: love. Watching love win over and over and over again this year, despite all of the odds was something to behold. And we once again fell in love with with what we have the immense privilege of doing, capturing those undeniably beautiful moments of pure joy.

The biggest thank you from the bottom of our hearts goes out to every single couple, family, and individual who continually put their trust in us during a year where everything was uncertain, yet everything mattered even more. And to all of our vendor friends, thank you for riding this one out with us, we’ve never had so much faith in the wedding community as we do right here and now.

No year will ever be quite like 2020, and while we’re grateful to see beacons of hope at start of the new year, we’re forever be grateful for the year that gave us all a chance to start anew and to believe in the magic that is love.

Wedding Inspo - Intimate Weddings Part II

Earlier this year we posted a blog about some of our favorite intimate wedding inspiration, but after about a dozen more tiny weddings just in the past few months, we decided to make a part two!

If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a dozen times, we ADORE intimate weddings. Everything about these little weddings is absolute perfection, from being able to spend more time with your guests to having a less limited budget due to overall lower costs to even just being able to enjoy more moments soaking up those first few hours of marriage. Over the past few months, we’ve been absolutely blown away by how our couples have taken intimate weddings to the next freaking level. Backyard weddings with all the pretty garden details, stoop weddings followed by mini parades, and the most adorable little farm weddings have just been the beginning of a whole new era of micro-weddings.

We’re not sure when giant weddings will be a consistent possibility in the coming months, but dang are we thankful for these beautiful, heartfelt, downright incredible intimate weddings. We can’t wait to share even more of these gorgeous days still to come!

Wedding Inspo - Intimate Weddings

As 2020 progresses, it feels like there are different possibilities for weddings on a daily basis. And while big weddings, especially in New Mexico, might not be a reality for a little bit, we adore that intimate weddings are starting to become a bigger staple in the wedding industry.

For clarity, intimate weddings and elopements might seem similar, but they’re actually quite different. In a typical elopement, usually just the couple, the officiant, and the photographer are present. However, in an intimate wedding, usually both sets of parents of the couple, the officiant, a few close friends/family members, and the photographer are present. Sometimes, when there’s not a pandemic taking place, an intimate wedding can even look something like 15-45 guests, usually just a short list of the most important people in the couple’s life.

So far this year, we captured one of the sweetest intimate weddings here in Albuquerque at Los Poblanos Historic Inn and Organic Farm, but in the past we’ve captured a handful of tiny weddings that have filled our hearts with absolute joy. Some of the bonuses of intimate weddings aren’t just cost related (or in 2020’s case, health related), sometimes the best things about smaller weddings involved being able to spend quality time with pretty much every single guest. Another factor is even being able to allow moments of the day to feel less hectic such as making timelines that have less rushed portraits and ceremonies with smaller weddings parties (which means a lot less stress too).

While big weddings will someday be a possibility again, having intimate weddings in their place until we can all gather together safely again might just be the next best thing. Here’s to finding new ways to celebrate and never ever giving up on love, no matter what the universe throws our way!!

Stuart + Kelly, an Intimate Wedding at Los Poblanos

2020 has proven to be year full of twists and turns, but amid the chaos, we’ve found little moments of joy with a handful of elopements and incredible lovers. Stuart and Kelly’s intimate wedding at Los Poblanos this June was such a highlight of this year, we loved every sweet little moment of this day.

Nearly four years ago Kelly and Stuart’s paths crossed for the very first, but certainly not the last, time while both living in Midland, Texas. While they both had an amazing time on their first date, Kelly was simultaneously traveling quite a bit for work and set on moving to Houston, so they eventually moved on from one another (even though Stuart took this as Kelly “ghosting” him). A few months later, Kelly found out that her work rotation in Midland was being extended for another 6 months, so she decided to reach out to Stuart and to her surprise, he decided to “ghost” her by not responding to her texts (a truly modern love story)! Kelly being resilient, and having that sixth sense that Stuart was still into her, didn’t give up, and eventually he caved and they met up for dinner. Ever since, these babes have been inseparable. Once Kelly’s work rotation was up, she opted to stay in Midland with Stuart instead of moving to Houston.

About 3 years later, while on a quick weekend trip to Santa Fe, Stuart proposed. Kelly had a hunch for a few months prior and expected to him to pop the question at Napa later in 2019, but Stuart had decided that The City Different would make the perfect to ask Kelly. On a freezing February evening, under string lights in the Plaza, Stuart proposed to Kelly in the same city where they had gone on their first trip together and spent their first Christmas together, truly a magical place that would forever be extra special for both of them.

Flash forward to 2020, Stuart and Kelly were set on having a gorgeous summer wedding at historic Los Poblanos here in Albuquerque, when COVID-19, aka the pandemic that literally no one asked for, hit around the globe. As June grew closer and more restrictions were put into place, these lovers eventually settled on an intimate wedding at the property with just their parents and two of their closest friends. And even though it was small, this day was beyond beautiful and for all the right reasons. Kelly had some of the dreamiest details including a Rue de Seine gown (that we can’t stop thinking about), a stunning bouquet by Floriography, and the most beautiful glam by some of our favorite hair and makeup angels (Betty Rose by Alanna and Diana of Something Ginger), but the one detail that really stood out to us was Kelly and Stuart’s love for one another. Kelly recalls walking down the aisle and realizing that it didn’t matter if there were a handful of guests or a hundred guests, all she could see in perfect clarity was Stuart smiling at her. Even though everything had changed, becoming husband and wife was all that really mattered to both of them.

After their heartfelt ceremony, we got to spend a little extra time with Stuart and Kelly, from seeing their first dance to John Adams’ cover of Taylor Swift’s “Lover” to roaming around Los Poblanos for the most beautiful romantics to finally capturing them walk into their sweet little dinner at El Campo.

Something that Kelly told us after their ceremony that hit home for us and for everyone trying to plan (and replan) weddings in the time of coronavirus is this, “ “It's very easy during the wedding planning process to forget what is really important; the marriage. At the end of the day, the wedding does not define who we are as husband and wife. Our process was so unique and forced us to problem solve and make very difficult decisions together. We learned how to compromise and understand what was truly important to each of us. The little things we thought at one point were so important, like the napkins or the table settings, didn't matter at the end of the day. We were just so blessed to be surrounded by our closest loved ones, and to be celebrating each other, those small things just became afterthoughts.”

There’s so much we could say about these two, from being so dang kind to rolling with all the punches of 2020 to literally becoming Instagram besties with us, we have so much love for Kelly and Stuart. We can’t wait to celebrate your love all over again in Texas!!!

Wedding Inspo - Sheath Bridal Gowns

If there’s one current wedding trend that we can’t get enough of, its how popular sheath gowns have become over the past few years. Chic, modern, and effortlessly elegant, this style of dress can go from a backyard wedding to a Santa Fe Plaza wedding to an art gallery wedding to an elopement in the mountains! We love how this minimalist design can be paired with a simple jeweled belt or a lace overlay to make it even more gorgeous. Shout out to one of the most universally flattering designs out there, we can’t wait for more brides to shine in sheath gowns!
