Erin, a Dreamy Bridal Boudoir

A few weeks before saying “I do” to the love of her life, our sweet angel Erin met up with us for the dreamiest bridal boudoir session of all time. This beauty seriously has zero bad angles, we’re so obsessed with everything Erin is and does.

Paired with some of the prettiest bridal details and soft studio lighting, this boudoir session was one for the books. Our gal Ashley captured lovely Erin at our favorite little studio spot, Lighthouse Studio, and we were overwhelmed by all of the subtle, yet gorgeous beauty!

Cheers to all the dreamy, wonderful brides and the sweetest bridal sessions!!!

Bridal Inspo - a Whimsical, Fairytale Inspired Shoot

Over the past year, we’ve been beyond lucky to create so many dreamy styled weddings and elopements, but we knew we wanted to capture a divine yet whimsical bridal session at the start of spring. We teamed up with some of our fave local vendors for a blush-toned vision we probably won’t stop daydreaming about ever.

For this little fairytale day, we decided to have the perfect mix of soft, delicate bridal details and lush, bright florals. Our friends at A Beautiful Theme created the most out-of-this-world rainbow bouquet that perfectly contrasted the dreamiest blush bridal gown from Raw Golden Rentals and the most regal jewelry from local jewelry queens, Ooh Aah Jewelry. For the most stunning bridal glam our angels at Something Ginger made our bride, Brittany, look like an absolute goddess with a modern, yet elegant bridal glow. To top it all off, we captured everything at our fave little natural light spot in town, Lighthouse Studio.

Even though our season is ramping up again, we know that more divine days like this are ahead of us in 2021, we can’t wait to share even more of the magic!

Bridal Inspo - A Bewitching Harvest Moon Shoot

Truthfully, there is nothing more magical than bridal shoots in the middle of the desert, but there is something extra enchanting about a shoot on the eve of the Harvest Moon (a full moon that only happens once a year). We journeyed out into the mystical New Mexico terrain for the most spellbinding collaboration with some of the most wonderful creatives around.

Something that truly astonishes us about our beautiful home state is how captivating it continues to be year after year, shoot after shoot. We headed out to one of our tried and true locations, yet still managed to find new spots to capture the beauty this early fall evening brought to us. From a hidden field to the most otherworldly rock formations to the most incredible view of THAT moon, this styled bridal session was one that truly took our breath away.

We teamed up with a few of our fave local vendors in addition to some new creatives for this unreal evening. With the most stunning two-piece gown from Gypsy Bride paired with a perfect straw hat by Gigi Pip alongside the gorgeous dried florals from Albuquerque Florist and the most divine bridal glam by Genica Lee (we still can’t get over that berry lip or those beautiful loose braids), we like to believe that we pulled off a truly alluring bridal shoot. We’re forever obsessed with this evening all of the quiet beauty it brought to us.

Evenings like this always make us crave more mesmerizing bridal moments in the endless Southwest desert. Fingers crossed for even more brides who take us out into the wilderness to create even more divine beauty.

Adrian + Bridget, a Desert Proposal

Even though we don’t have the chance to capture them very much, we’re always head-over-heels for surprise proposals. We were so incredibly lucky to capture Adrian and Bridget’s sweet proposal right in the middle of one of their mini session with us last fall and it was such a sweet, unreal moment.

Even though the world has been upside-down for the last year, seeing cuties like Adrian and Bridget still letting love win by embarking on a new journey in their relationship is always something so unbelievably special for us. Cheers to love enduring everything and anything that life throws at us, even a pandemic!

Andrew + Shay, an Intimate Backyard Wedding

While 2020 may have been the year that redefined weddings, it certainly wasn’t the year that changed anything about love. We were lucky enough to capture Andrew and Shay’s newest chapter in their whirlwind romance and dang was it the most stunning fall day!

Andrew and Shay first met in Cancun, Mexico in November of 2019 while separately attending the wedding of mutual friends and in a straight-out-of-a-movie story, these two immediately gravitated towards one another. During their time together, whether they spent it walking on the beach or dancing the nights away, these two quickly fell head-over-heels in love. At the end of their stay in Mexico, these two decided to take a chance on love and jump into a long distance relationship (of about 1,500 miles away from each other)! As sweet Shay once told us of hers and Andrew’s romance, “when it's for the right person no distance could be far enough”. Truthfully, Andrew and Shay’s connection wasn’t just love at first sight, this was soulmates at first sight.

After about 6 months of being together, Andrew and Shay knew that they were beyond ready to make it last name official. They decided to celebrate their love in Shay’s home state of New Mexico before making the move to West Virginia to start their new beginning together. On the most beautiful fall day, these lovers said “I do” in in the quaint, historic, Blessed Nativity Catholic Church in Albuquerque surrounded by only their closest loved ones. They followed up their intimate ceremony with the prettiest little candlelit backyard reception. And thanks to the amazing fall weather, we were able to steal these two away for some gorgeous romantics in the desert.

We were so blown away by Andrew and Shay’s love for one another, cheers to finding your soulmate against all odds and taking a leap of faith for love!

Gabe + Amy, a Breathtaking Desert Anniversary Session

One trend starting to pick up this year that we simply cannot get enough of is styled anniversary shoots. Whether its a celebration of one year of marriage or fifteen years, we adore when couples wanna pull out all of the stops to celebrate their love story year after year. A few months ago, Gabe and Amy celebrated their ten year wedding anniversary and dang was it a stunner.

We met up with these lovebirds in the middle of the desert and we were absolutely blown away by the details these two brought to this dazzling September evening. To celebrate ten whole years of marriage, three adorable kids, and two amazing careers together, Gabe and Amy brought a whole lot of whimsical glam to their little shoot. From not one but two gorgeous gowns from Dalliance Bespoke (especially that dreamy jade toned one) to the softest, most beautiful glam by Alanna and Jayce of Betty Rose by Alanna to a killer florals by Rose Rebels Floral Designs, these lovers know how to take an anniversary shoot to the next freaking level. And if all of those striking details weren’t enough, Gabe and Amy ended the evening by cracking open Marble Brewery beers at the top of the most divine rock formation.

Congrats on a whole decade of love cuties, we can’t wait to see what the next ten years brings for you guys!

P.S. - Couples, please please hop on this anniversary idea because we’re beyond obsessed with it.

Wedding Inspo - Intimate Weddings Part II

Earlier this year we posted a blog about some of our favorite intimate wedding inspiration, but after about a dozen more tiny weddings just in the past few months, we decided to make a part two!

If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a dozen times, we ADORE intimate weddings. Everything about these little weddings is absolute perfection, from being able to spend more time with your guests to having a less limited budget due to overall lower costs to even just being able to enjoy more moments soaking up those first few hours of marriage. Over the past few months, we’ve been absolutely blown away by how our couples have taken intimate weddings to the next freaking level. Backyard weddings with all the pretty garden details, stoop weddings followed by mini parades, and the most adorable little farm weddings have just been the beginning of a whole new era of micro-weddings.

We’re not sure when giant weddings will be a consistent possibility in the coming months, but dang are we thankful for these beautiful, heartfelt, downright incredible intimate weddings. We can’t wait to share even more of these gorgeous days still to come!

Vendor Feature - Bagels' Florals

Each wedding season we’re lucky enough to work with a vast amount of talented wedding vendors and creatives, but we’ve felt extremely grateful to have crossed paths with Abigail of Bagels’ Florals just two short years ago. Not only is this amazing florist beyond her years in talent, she’s one of the brightest, most inspirational souls we know. We knew that we couldn’t let 2020 end without featuring her ethereal, colorful and exquisite work.

We are always beyond excited for every single celebration we get to capture that features Bagels’ work. A true artist at heart, every single bouquet, boutonnière, installment, and arrangement she creates is done with care, intention, and a passion to make the world a brighter place. We were especially honored to capture Bagels’ first two bouquet wedding ( a very special moment for her, an LGBTQ florist) this year for our lovers Brittany + Angie and she did a tremendously gorgeous job (we’re honestly still obsessed with her creations from that sweet little backyard wedding).

Beyond simply being an incredibly gifted florist and gardener, Bagels is also a major community leader in the New Mexico wedding industry. She consistently uses her platform to speak up for social change and action, inspiring other vendors and community members (especially us!) to do the same. We’re consistently blown away by how much love and passion Bagels holds for making New Mexico, and truthfully this world, a more compassionate accepting place for everyone.

We feel so increasingly fortunate to even know someone as talented, smart, and driven as Bagels and we know that everyone will continued to be inspired by this amazing human being.

Tyler + Taylor, a Styled Anniversary Session

When our girl Taylor, aka one of ALP’s amazing assistants, told us that she was planning a styled shoot to celebrate one whole year of marriage to her husband Tyler, we knew it had to be absolutely stunning. Even after we were initially rained out due to that New Mexico monsoon weather, we were still able to pull off this beautiful August evening.

Long before they were married and even before they went off to separate colleges, Tyler and Taylor were high school sweethearts. They met in a marketing class at La Cueva High School and according to Taylor, Tyler had that “swoopy boy band hair and brown eyes” that instantly caught her attention. A mutual friend in the class gave these two the ultimate excuse to get to know each other. That same year, Tyler asked Taylor to Homecoming and they’ve been together ever since. Taylor eventually went off to college in Texas to pursue a degree to Biology and to play colligate soccer while Tyler stayed in New Mexico to study pre-med. After about 3 years of long-distance, Tyler moved to Austin and they lived there together for 1 year before moving back to Albuquerque.

After many years of love, these two finally tied the knot in August of 2019 in Santa Fe. One of their biggest wedding themes was Paulo Coehlo’s The Alchemist, a book that they both read during their years apart in college. For these two, it was the perfect summation of their love story and how distance and time don’t always have to be the great decider in a love story, sometimes we get to make those choices and take those chances.

Tyler and Taylor currently live in Albuquerque with their gorgeous huskies Dash, the very sassy and very fluffy one, and Nyx, the snuggly sweetheart. Taylor also doubles as a styling and wedding day assistant for our girl Lauren of Just Lovely Weddings and Tyler is in his last year of med school before these two move for his residency(!!!!!).

Even though that New Mexico weather was working against us for this shoot and forced us to reschedule, we still did the damn thing. We were so beyond grateful for our angel Kim of Something Ginger for creating the most stellar glam not one, but two days in a row, for Floral Fetish with that beautiful bouquet, and Darling Details for letting us borrow a bit of magic for the evening. We adored how Taylor and Tyler not only planned the best outfits, but wore their actual wedding attire for the first half of the shoot (because why the heck not?!).

We’re so inspired by Tyler and Taylor’s enduring love for each other, for life, and for showing us that love really can withstand it all if you give it a chance.

Rob + Antonette, an Old Town Styled Elopement

This summer was definitely a hot one, but it was even hotter thanks to this spicy day in Old Town Albuquerque. We teamed up with the glam queens of Something Ginger for a Southwestern-inspired, temperature-raising, undeniably smokin’ hot styled elopement.

In addition to capturing these babes, Rob and Antonette, in some of our favorite little Old Town corners, we explored a little bit more of this special little gem of a location like that stellar Zia gate and that quaint little garden. We also got to collab with a few other vendor friends including The Dressing Room West for the most elegant bridal gown, Albuquerque Florist for the biggest, most eye-catching, orange bouquet we’ve ever seen, and Peyote Bird Designs for some of the most eclectic pieces of jewelry.

Colder weather might be right around the corner, but we can’t wait for more steamy elopements like this one. Cheers to all the New Mexican-infused days still to come!

Juliet, a Divine Styled Bridal Session

If there’s one thing more magical than a bridal session, its a New Mexico bridal session with that dark, yet gorgeous monsoon weather. We braved a tiny storm with Juliet, the loveliest little bride, for one of the prettiest evenings in the desert.

Our girl Alanna Garcia of Betty Rose by Alanna put together the most stunning styled bridal session and when she asked us to capture all of the beauty, we were over the moon! Our graceful Juliet glowed just a little extra thanks to Alanna’s beautiful makeup and Savannah’s elegant hair design (complete with the tiniest little floral details). Our sweet friend Darlene of Bridal Elegance by Darlene let us capture the most exquisite, romantic bridal gown, complete with removable sleeves and the lightest, most beautiful tulle fabric around. To top it all off, A Beautiful Theme created a truly otherworldly, moody bouquet that we’re still thinking about to this day.

We love love love getting to capture visions that our vendor friends dream up, we are so excited for all the beauty that’s still to come!!!

Wedding Inspo - Wedding Planning Advice from Just Lovely Weddings

If there’s one thing we’ve learned so far in 2020, its to expect the unexpected and to embrace joy where we find it. Luckily for us, and for a ton of our couples, Lauren of Just Lovely Weddings and Darling Details Rentals has been an absolute angel in guiding everyone through it all.

This wedding coordinator queen gave us some insight on what couples are doing to still celebrate love during a pandemic, how to deal with planning a wedding/elopement in the face of uncertainty, and what to expect in the future of weddings!

Alicia Lucia Photography: Long before 2020 and all of its challenges, how did Just Lovely Weddings and Darling Details Rentals come to be?

Just Lovely: I got started with events in 2012, when I worked as a catering manager for a small hotel. I had a series of similar roles in the industry until early 2015, when I started Just Lovely and took on my first wedding that summer. It’s crazy to think that 2020 would’ve been/is my 6th season as an independent wedding planner & coordinator. Near the end of 2016 an industry colleague asked me if I wanted to take over Darling Details, and I have been working to grow our rental collection since then. I’ve loved being a part of so many special days, sometimes for both Just Lovely & Darling Details, and sometimes for just one or the other.

ALP: With the major shifts of 2020, what are more and more weddings starting to look like?

JL: Every wedding is different, and the needs of each couple reflects that. None of us wanted this to happen, and it’s just terrible for everyone. I am so grateful that most of our clients have decided to postpone, but I also get why some couldn’t. A lot of couples have decided to elope this year and have a party later on when they feel it’s safe. Some have decided to downsize significantly and have very intimate ceremonies and go to dinner after. The best decision right now is the one that feels most comfortable to the couple.

ALP: How is Just Lovely changing and pivoting during this time?

JL: My biggest goal in all of this has been to show up for our affected clients, providing advice and basically just guiding them through this challenging situation and showing them that they aren’t alone. We’ve helped them move dates and also transition to elopements. This is new territory for all of us and I am grateful to be in a position where I can guide my couples on the best options for them.

ALP: How should/can couples plan a wedding during a pandemic?

JL: My advice is to trust your feelings. Planning right now is a challenge due to uncertainty, so if you’re starting to feel stressed or anxious about your date (and if gatherings will be allowed then) start to consider a backup plan and discuss options with your vendors. Also, the wedding industry has taken such a hit, so try to be patient with your vendors. Most of us are in this industry because it’s where our hearts are, and our lives have been turned upside down. Any grace that we’re shown is appreciated even more right now.

ALP: How do you think this is going to change the industry?

JL: With only smaller celebrations being allowed, many couples have had to transition to more intimate gatherings than they would’ve originally considered. I think that this shift has started to show couples that, truly, all that’s needed to get married is a couple of witnesses and an officiant. Everything else should be fun, so hopefully this will alleviate some of the pressure to plan in the future, and help guide couples to plan events that are meaningful to them.

ALP: What has been the hardest part of this pandemic for your business? And, conversely, what has been the most rewarding part for Just Lovely?

JL: The hardest part has been our hearts breaking for our couples whose plans changed overnight; they had to make some really tough decisions, but at the end of the day I think they all did what was best for them and their guests. The second hardest part has been losing the majority of our income for the year, for both businesses, while expenses did not change.

The most rewarding part has been seeing the value of what a planner does, and how much we can truly help the couples we work with. Also, forcing myself to consider different sources of revenue and opportunities will make the businesses stronger in the long run.

ALP: What are your goals for Just Lovely past this pandemic and into the future?

JL: My goal past the pandemic is to continue to show up for our couples. I have been thinking a lot about how I can provide more resources and more value, and have been working on new processes and content to be able to do that. In the future, I would also love to get into planning more corporate events as well!

ALP: Finally what do you miss the most about big weddings? And what do you love the most about little weddings?

JL: I love weddings of all sizes! What I miss most about weddings in general is seeing the love and friendship that surrounds a couple on their wedding day - that’s what is most important. I feel like there has been this pressure to live up to this standard of weddings that was exhausting for everyone. I hope that at the end of this we all just remember that weddings are celebrations, and they’re meant to be fun and filled with love.

Erin, a Dreamy Downtown Bridal Session

For the last few years we’ve been head over heels in love with wedding gown designer Claire Pettibone and her effortless, vintage, and downright ethereal creations. So when we had a rare opportunity to photograph one of her divine gowns this summer on our angel Erin, we were absolutely on cloud nine.

Deciding to stick with simplicity and a focus on bridal portraits, we teamed up with our hair and makeup gals Kata + Diana of Something Ginger, local florist Flower Loop, and the jewelry babes of Ooh Aah Jewelry to make this styled bridal session one to remember. Erin was an absolute vision, from her gorgeous bridal glam (consisting of the most epic updo we’ve seen in awhile) to this Claire Pettibone gown that fit her perfectly, to her overall captivating aura and energy. When we say that Erin made our jobs easy we mean that Erin was an absolute DREAM to capture. So grateful for all of the laughs, beauty, and magnetic energy of this little evening in Downtown Albuquerque. Cheers to so many more connections and collaborations filled with love, joy, and genuine bliss.

Maria, Ethereal Bridal Boudoir

Last month we spent a few hours in absolute bridal boudoir HEAVEN with one of the dreamiest vendor teams in the universe. It was everything we could have ever imagined, from ethereal lingerie to stunning glam, this summer day was beyond divine.

Although we don’t capture as much bridal boudoir as we’d like to, 2020 has given us the unique opportunity to tap into the smaller, more personal shoots we adore so much. One of our forever muses, Maria, once again graced the front of our cameras and it was beyond what we had daydreamed it would be.

Wearing the most elegant bridal lingerie by Terese Rose Designs, complete with a stunning slip and beautifully delicate robe, and glamed up by our queens Diana and Kata of Something Ginger, this bridal goddess made our vision come to life. We captured this incredibly lovely session at Casita de Cacti, an Airbnb hosted by Kata Baron, and even got to include some of the world’s most gorgeous florals by Floral Fetish. We can’t get over how that New Mexico sunshine came into the space so very softly, giving Maria that otherworldly, ethereal bridal glow we love so much.

We’re forever blown away by this day, its simplicity, and its out of this world beauty.

Wedding Inspo - Intimate Weddings

As 2020 progresses, it feels like there are different possibilities for weddings on a daily basis. And while big weddings, especially in New Mexico, might not be a reality for a little bit, we adore that intimate weddings are starting to become a bigger staple in the wedding industry.

For clarity, intimate weddings and elopements might seem similar, but they’re actually quite different. In a typical elopement, usually just the couple, the officiant, and the photographer are present. However, in an intimate wedding, usually both sets of parents of the couple, the officiant, a few close friends/family members, and the photographer are present. Sometimes, when there’s not a pandemic taking place, an intimate wedding can even look something like 15-45 guests, usually just a short list of the most important people in the couple’s life.

So far this year, we captured one of the sweetest intimate weddings here in Albuquerque at Los Poblanos Historic Inn and Organic Farm, but in the past we’ve captured a handful of tiny weddings that have filled our hearts with absolute joy. Some of the bonuses of intimate weddings aren’t just cost related (or in 2020’s case, health related), sometimes the best things about smaller weddings involved being able to spend quality time with pretty much every single guest. Another factor is even being able to allow moments of the day to feel less hectic such as making timelines that have less rushed portraits and ceremonies with smaller weddings parties (which means a lot less stress too).

While big weddings will someday be a possibility again, having intimate weddings in their place until we can all gather together safely again might just be the next best thing. Here’s to finding new ways to celebrate and never ever giving up on love, no matter what the universe throws our way!!
