Wedding Inspo - Bouquet Inspo Third Edition

No matter what kind of celebration we’re capturing, we know that there’s guaranteed to be some variety of magical florals involved. For us, bouquets always take the cake on wedding and elopement days, these beauties say so much about a couple, their nuptials, and their love story.

From the tiniest blooms to the biggest florals, bouquets are always one of our favorite details. Whether they’re dainty and soft or bold and bright, bouquets know how to steal the show. We love seeing our couples chose the most elegant, classic florals or even opting for something modern, colorful, and completely out-of-the-box.

2021’s bouquets were the downright dreamiest, we can’t wait to see what 2022 and beyond have in store for our floral-loving hearts!!!!

Wedding Inspo - Top 5 Santa Fe Wedding Venues

Being from the gorgeous state of New Mexico, we spend a whole lot of time in our beautiful capital city of Santa Fe. We picked our top five places to tie the knot in The City Different and, dang, are they dreamy.

From the adobe-adorned plaza to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to way out in the desert, there are so many uniquely stunning places to say “I do” in and around Santa Fe. We adore spending time at La Fonda on the Plaza and La Posada de Santa Fe, both of which are located right near the heart of the city and have the most divine, historic architecture. We’re also head-over-heels for all the venues out in the wilds of New Mexico. From Georgia O’Keeffe’s beloved gem Ghost Ranch to the the hidden mountain beauty of Four Seasons Santa Santa Fe to the eclectic, wildly unique vibes of Hacienda Doña Andrea, couples have a plethora of ethereal, Southwestern spots to make it last name official.

We’re obsessed with all the incredible celebrations we’ve captured at these stellar venues and can’t wait to witness even more love and magic at them soon!

Bridal Inspo - a Whimsical, Fairytale Inspired Shoot

Over the past year, we’ve been beyond lucky to create so many dreamy styled weddings and elopements, but we knew we wanted to capture a divine yet whimsical bridal session at the start of spring. We teamed up with some of our fave local vendors for a blush-toned vision we probably won’t stop daydreaming about ever.

For this little fairytale day, we decided to have the perfect mix of soft, delicate bridal details and lush, bright florals. Our friends at A Beautiful Theme created the most out-of-this-world rainbow bouquet that perfectly contrasted the dreamiest blush bridal gown from Raw Golden Rentals and the most regal jewelry from local jewelry queens, Ooh Aah Jewelry. For the most stunning bridal glam our angels at Something Ginger made our bride, Brittany, look like an absolute goddess with a modern, yet elegant bridal glow. To top it all off, we captured everything at our fave little natural light spot in town, Lighthouse Studio.

Even though our season is ramping up again, we know that more divine days like this are ahead of us in 2021, we can’t wait to share even more of the magic!

2021 Wedding + Elopement Trends

Despite all of the uncertainty and struggle of 2020, we’ve seen so many amazing things start to take hold in the wedding industry. From recognizing how amazing small, intentional celebrations can be to couples taking chances on brand new ideas for their special day, we’ve truly been in awe over all of it. We’re hoping that a few of the trends we’ve been crushing on become major elements of weddings and elopements in 2021!

We’re currently obsessed with:
- unique + colorful bridal gowns
- bright + funky florals
- soft baby’s breath bouquets
- tiny, intimate ceremonies with just friends + family
- unique, avant-garde cakes

Smithwick Family, a Heartwarming Studio Session

Last December was the very first time we got to meet marketing queen Camille, but dang did it feel like we had been friends forever. And as if this sweet little family shoot couldn’t get any better, we also got to capture all the cuteness at the newly opened Light House Studio, the most divine natural light studio in town.

Camille, who owns and runs CRS Social Media Marketing, isn’t just a brilliant business woman, she’s also incredible mamma and wife. The love Camille and her adorable family holds for each other is so apparent, we loved every second of this touching portrait session.

We love love love spending time with adorable little families, we can’t wait for more sessions like this one!

Rob + Antonette, an Old Town Styled Elopement

This summer was definitely a hot one, but it was even hotter thanks to this spicy day in Old Town Albuquerque. We teamed up with the glam queens of Something Ginger for a Southwestern-inspired, temperature-raising, undeniably smokin’ hot styled elopement.

In addition to capturing these babes, Rob and Antonette, in some of our favorite little Old Town corners, we explored a little bit more of this special little gem of a location like that stellar Zia gate and that quaint little garden. We also got to collab with a few other vendor friends including The Dressing Room West for the most elegant bridal gown, Albuquerque Florist for the biggest, most eye-catching, orange bouquet we’ve ever seen, and Peyote Bird Designs for some of the most eclectic pieces of jewelry.

Colder weather might be right around the corner, but we can’t wait for more steamy elopements like this one. Cheers to all the New Mexican-infused days still to come!

Wedding Inspo - Ceremony Altars

Whether its a mini-wedding with a handful of guests or a giant, incredibly lively wedding with a whole bunch of friends and family members, our couples always find a way to make their ceremonies extra gorgeous, especially when it comes to the backdrops they pick to stand in front of to say “I do”. From stunning floral installations to incredible ceremony arches, we’ve seen it all, but we love looking back at some of the most show-stopping ceremony set ups we’ve seen over the past year.

As expected, we captured a ton of floral arches, from the bright and bold to the soft and whimsical varieties. Arches, both of of the wooden variety and of the purely floral design are becoming a wedding staple that we’re sure will always be a fan fave.

But besides this new classic, what other beauties have adorned alters and made vows that much more special? There are a few pretty little designs that come to mind and wow, are we still drooling over them. Just a few of our current faves include a dreamy mauve-toned geometric backdrop, the most eye-catching florals being draped from a tiny balcony, and a boho rug framed with giant pampas grass arrangements. And, of course, we can’t forget how one of our couples opted for that wide open New Mexico sky to be their ceremony background as they exchanged vows at a backyard wedding in the Santa Fe mountains.

We’re not sure what new altar trends will take the wedding world by storm in the coming years, but we do know that they’ll be absolutely divines and we’re so dang here for it all.

Erin, a Dreamy Downtown Bridal Session

For the last few years we’ve been head over heels in love with wedding gown designer Claire Pettibone and her effortless, vintage, and downright ethereal creations. So when we had a rare opportunity to photograph one of her divine gowns this summer on our angel Erin, we were absolutely on cloud nine.

Deciding to stick with simplicity and a focus on bridal portraits, we teamed up with our hair and makeup gals Kata + Diana of Something Ginger, local florist Flower Loop, and the jewelry babes of Ooh Aah Jewelry to make this styled bridal session one to remember. Erin was an absolute vision, from her gorgeous bridal glam (consisting of the most epic updo we’ve seen in awhile) to this Claire Pettibone gown that fit her perfectly, to her overall captivating aura and energy. When we say that Erin made our jobs easy we mean that Erin was an absolute DREAM to capture. So grateful for all of the laughs, beauty, and magnetic energy of this little evening in Downtown Albuquerque. Cheers to so many more connections and collaborations filled with love, joy, and genuine bliss.

Nathan + Symone, a Styled Elopement in Nob Hill

Once in a while, we get to meet lovers that are so magnetic and beautiful that its hard not to absolutely fall in love with them. Nathan and Symone are that exact type of couple and we were so dang grateful they were up for being a part of the dreamiest styled elopement of the century.

Our girl Symone, who is without a doubt an absolute angel, has been a bride for us before in one of our fave styled elopements a few seasons ago, but this time was extra special for us because we got to capture her with her boyfriend, Nathan. These two lovers are some of the kindest, most down-to-earth, but also up for whatever people we’ve ever met and we feel so lucky to just know them. The love and genuine respect between these two amazing souls is so apparent and honestly, with obsessed with them.

Since we’re living in the age of a pandemic and a whole lot of uncertainty, we wanted to try our hands at a brand new concept for our team, an Airbnb elopement (a trend that has truly taken hold in 2020). Kata Baron’s Casita de Cacti was the absolute perfect location for part of this styled elopement. Filled with lush furniture and divine art by St Jame, this little Nob Hill spot is beyond perfection. Our gals at Something Ginger gave Symone the most gorgeous bridal glow (complete with the BEST red lip we’ve seen in awhile) and Floral Fetish created a beyond stunning sage and white bouquet that matched every single aspect of this day wonderfully. For the coolest, yet still incredibly elegant bridal look, our friends at Sweet Caroline Styles gave us the most flawless bodysuit and skirt. And to top it all off, local jewelry designer Tumble came through with the best little minimalist, yet still stunning wedding bands.

This day was something straight from a dream and we’ll probably never ever stop posting about it on here and on every social media site ever. Thank you to this amazing wedding vendor dream team, we coudln’t have done it without you all. And we can’t wait until Nate and Symone tie the knot for real, count us in :)

Maria, Ethereal Bridal Boudoir

Last month we spent a few hours in absolute bridal boudoir HEAVEN with one of the dreamiest vendor teams in the universe. It was everything we could have ever imagined, from ethereal lingerie to stunning glam, this summer day was beyond divine.

Although we don’t capture as much bridal boudoir as we’d like to, 2020 has given us the unique opportunity to tap into the smaller, more personal shoots we adore so much. One of our forever muses, Maria, once again graced the front of our cameras and it was beyond what we had daydreamed it would be.

Wearing the most elegant bridal lingerie by Terese Rose Designs, complete with a stunning slip and beautifully delicate robe, and glamed up by our queens Diana and Kata of Something Ginger, this bridal goddess made our vision come to life. We captured this incredibly lovely session at Casita de Cacti, an Airbnb hosted by Kata Baron, and even got to include some of the world’s most gorgeous florals by Floral Fetish. We can’t get over how that New Mexico sunshine came into the space so very softly, giving Maria that otherworldly, ethereal bridal glow we love so much.

We’re forever blown away by this day, its simplicity, and its out of this world beauty.

Wedding Inspo - Intimate Weddings

As 2020 progresses, it feels like there are different possibilities for weddings on a daily basis. And while big weddings, especially in New Mexico, might not be a reality for a little bit, we adore that intimate weddings are starting to become a bigger staple in the wedding industry.

For clarity, intimate weddings and elopements might seem similar, but they’re actually quite different. In a typical elopement, usually just the couple, the officiant, and the photographer are present. However, in an intimate wedding, usually both sets of parents of the couple, the officiant, a few close friends/family members, and the photographer are present. Sometimes, when there’s not a pandemic taking place, an intimate wedding can even look something like 15-45 guests, usually just a short list of the most important people in the couple’s life.

So far this year, we captured one of the sweetest intimate weddings here in Albuquerque at Los Poblanos Historic Inn and Organic Farm, but in the past we’ve captured a handful of tiny weddings that have filled our hearts with absolute joy. Some of the bonuses of intimate weddings aren’t just cost related (or in 2020’s case, health related), sometimes the best things about smaller weddings involved being able to spend quality time with pretty much every single guest. Another factor is even being able to allow moments of the day to feel less hectic such as making timelines that have less rushed portraits and ceremonies with smaller weddings parties (which means a lot less stress too).

While big weddings will someday be a possibility again, having intimate weddings in their place until we can all gather together safely again might just be the next best thing. Here’s to finding new ways to celebrate and never ever giving up on love, no matter what the universe throws our way!!

Stuart + Kelly, an Intimate Wedding at Los Poblanos

2020 has proven to be year full of twists and turns, but amid the chaos, we’ve found little moments of joy with a handful of elopements and incredible lovers. Stuart and Kelly’s intimate wedding at Los Poblanos this June was such a highlight of this year, we loved every sweet little moment of this day.

Nearly four years ago Kelly and Stuart’s paths crossed for the very first, but certainly not the last, time while both living in Midland, Texas. While they both had an amazing time on their first date, Kelly was simultaneously traveling quite a bit for work and set on moving to Houston, so they eventually moved on from one another (even though Stuart took this as Kelly “ghosting” him). A few months later, Kelly found out that her work rotation in Midland was being extended for another 6 months, so she decided to reach out to Stuart and to her surprise, he decided to “ghost” her by not responding to her texts (a truly modern love story)! Kelly being resilient, and having that sixth sense that Stuart was still into her, didn’t give up, and eventually he caved and they met up for dinner. Ever since, these babes have been inseparable. Once Kelly’s work rotation was up, she opted to stay in Midland with Stuart instead of moving to Houston.

About 3 years later, while on a quick weekend trip to Santa Fe, Stuart proposed. Kelly had a hunch for a few months prior and expected to him to pop the question at Napa later in 2019, but Stuart had decided that The City Different would make the perfect to ask Kelly. On a freezing February evening, under string lights in the Plaza, Stuart proposed to Kelly in the same city where they had gone on their first trip together and spent their first Christmas together, truly a magical place that would forever be extra special for both of them.

Flash forward to 2020, Stuart and Kelly were set on having a gorgeous summer wedding at historic Los Poblanos here in Albuquerque, when COVID-19, aka the pandemic that literally no one asked for, hit around the globe. As June grew closer and more restrictions were put into place, these lovers eventually settled on an intimate wedding at the property with just their parents and two of their closest friends. And even though it was small, this day was beyond beautiful and for all the right reasons. Kelly had some of the dreamiest details including a Rue de Seine gown (that we can’t stop thinking about), a stunning bouquet by Floriography, and the most beautiful glam by some of our favorite hair and makeup angels (Betty Rose by Alanna and Diana of Something Ginger), but the one detail that really stood out to us was Kelly and Stuart’s love for one another. Kelly recalls walking down the aisle and realizing that it didn’t matter if there were a handful of guests or a hundred guests, all she could see in perfect clarity was Stuart smiling at her. Even though everything had changed, becoming husband and wife was all that really mattered to both of them.

After their heartfelt ceremony, we got to spend a little extra time with Stuart and Kelly, from seeing their first dance to John Adams’ cover of Taylor Swift’s “Lover” to roaming around Los Poblanos for the most beautiful romantics to finally capturing them walk into their sweet little dinner at El Campo.

Something that Kelly told us after their ceremony that hit home for us and for everyone trying to plan (and replan) weddings in the time of coronavirus is this, “ “It's very easy during the wedding planning process to forget what is really important; the marriage. At the end of the day, the wedding does not define who we are as husband and wife. Our process was so unique and forced us to problem solve and make very difficult decisions together. We learned how to compromise and understand what was truly important to each of us. The little things we thought at one point were so important, like the napkins or the table settings, didn't matter at the end of the day. We were just so blessed to be surrounded by our closest loved ones, and to be celebrating each other, those small things just became afterthoughts.”

There’s so much we could say about these two, from being so dang kind to rolling with all the punches of 2020 to literally becoming Instagram besties with us, we have so much love for Kelly and Stuart. We can’t wait to celebrate your love all over again in Texas!!!

Behind the Camera with Alicia

There’s a lot going on in the world right now and amid all of the uncertainty, change, and eventual growth, we’re spending a little time reflecting on our team’s past, present, and future. Our head gal in charge Alicia sat down for a little behind the scenes Q&A and we talked everything Alicia Lucia Photography; from her sweet little beginnings as a photographer to cultivating her business and her team, to why she has major heart eyes for New Mexico, and the future of ALP including just a few of the international (!!!) places she’d love to capture weddings and elopements in once the world reaches a sense of calm again. She also shouted her favorite couples, weddings, and styled shoots from the last few years, and trust us when we say that they are absolutely iconic days for our team!

Alicia + New Mexico, a Match Made in Southwest Heaven

All of my childhood & adulthood, from as early as I can remember, has been spent in our beautiful southwest state. We moved from Texas to New Mexico for a job opportunity that my dad had and have called New Mexico home for the last 20+ years! I love it so much and don't see myself living anywhere else. It has become a huge source of inspiration for my work! Both personally and professionally, I love that New Mexico is our home base for a multitude of reasons, but most importantly i love how we have a variety of drastic environments. I can be shooting a gorgeous desert bridal session in the middle of the white ridge mesa and in 45 minutes can get to our wooded forest for a hike with my family. It's vast and beautiful, it's where I met my husband, where we got married, had both of our children, it's home to both of our businesses and I wouldn't change any of it for the world! Outside of work, we love spending most of our time outside, whether it's going or bike rides, hiking, fishing, (day) camping lol, or working on our ever growing garden!!

Alicia’s Photography Roots

I got into photography way back when we still were developing prints in a lab! I was around 13 years old when a family friend gifted me my first film camera & was totally that friend in highschool snapping away. In college, I pursued a different route, but deep down I always had a love for documenting people, places and love through photography. In 2012 I got the opportunity of assisting on a few weddings and in the fall of 2012 I shot my very first elopement solo! It was such a special experience and one that I will always treasure and be forever grateful for. I remember it like yesterday, I was a ball of nerves, but so happy and ecstatic to be given the chance.

Alicia Lucia Photography’s Beginnings + Growth

I started the company in 2013 and by 2015 we had already shot over 25+ weddings/elopements and brought on Ashley to shoot full time as co-lead!

By 2017 we were growing at the speed of light. It was a bummer to not be able to take on as much work because I was either busy shooting or growing our social media. That winter, I decided to outsource all social media and blogging and brought on Jaclyn our amazing social media and blogger maven. Soon after, I went full time on booking out weddings to Ashley, Bre, and me! It's been amazing so far and are able to be a part of documenting that many more love stories!!

On the Horizon for ALP

The future is such a loaded idea and one that I never do super great with. The uncertainty of the future, especially now with COVID-19 terrifys me, but I know our little team will make it through and I honestly seeing us traveling the world at some point! I would love for us to go beyond our home state and the Southwest region, and shoot across the country and world at some point! My top international destinations are Morocco (and other regions of Africa) and Iceland!

Fave Wedding Moments

Truly love it all. Every last part of it. Even when the nerves and anticipation from the slight chaos and tight schedules sets in, it's part of the thrill! I'd say the most memorable part of the day for me is getting to document the emotion of pure joy and elation at the realization of being just married after the couples come down the aisle! Their look and embrace to each other is always so sincere and sweet! That and the parent dances always, ALWAYS gets me.

The Best New Wedding Ideas + Trends

I'm loving that couples are doing their own thing, wholeheartedly! That they aren't going the traditional route, just for the sake of tradition and instead are opting for details or parts of the day that are true to them. We are seeing less of the bouquet and garter throwing, smaller or no bridal parties at all and brides who have multiple looks because who says you should only wear one dress or look? Couples who are writing their own vows or having friends and family members officiate. Couples who are opting for less of the structured photo time and instead just want candids and being intentional with guests, friends, and family! I really love the direction we're headed to, more intentional, wholesome and meaningful!

A Little Note to All the Lovers Out There

There is no right or wrong way to host your wedding, do what feels right and true to you. Try to not get caught up or stressed on the fine details and instead remember the real reason why you are celebrating! Also consider a day of coordinator. (hint: Lauren with Just Lovely Weddings + Darling Details Rentals is truly the best of the best!!)

Wedding Inspo - Spring Florals

Even though we’re staying indoors a whole lot more this spring, we can’t help but be extremely inspired by all of the nature in full bloom we still get to witness. We’ve found our favorite spring infused color palettes from some of the sweetest wedding days to add a little bit of light to the blog!

Although some of these weddings weren’t necessarily spring weddings, these florals still made us daydream of the perfect April or May wedding, full of muted pastels, bright whites, or even softly colorful tones. From sage and white bouquets to blush tinted to arrangements to to even subtly bright floral arches, these flowers still light up our little worlds to this day.

Here’s to some of the beauty that we can continue to find in our world every single day, we can’t wait to capture more stunning florals like this in the future!

Wedding Inspo - Why We Adore Elopements

Here in New Mexico, our team thrives in shooting the many big, bold, beautiful weddings all over the state, but we also live for the moments when we get to be a part of the sweet, quaint, intimate elopements! Just like larger, more traditional weddings, the main focus is always love, devotion and commitment, however, elopements tend to be much simpler and, of course, much much smaller. Here’s a few reasons why we have a soft spot for elopements!

- Intimacy
While we absolutely love getting to spend the day capturing those huge celebrations, there’s something magical about being alone with a couple sharing their first moments of married life with no one else around. We of course get to see lots of the same emotions as a traditional wedding ceremony, but we get to be even more up close and personal with our couples which makes it that much more meaningful for us behind the cameras.

-Cost
Its no surprise that elopements cost much less than average weddings do and today many couples all over the world are opting for elopements for just this reason. You can still get a stunning gown, a pretty bouquet, and a stellar hair/makeup artist without spending too much cash which is a huge bonus of elopements. In financially hard times, elopements are a great way to still look and feel amazing on your wedding day while still supporting a few small businesses along the way.

-Stress
Most of our wedding seasons consist of pretty big wedding days with some jaw dropping details (from floral installations, to killer reception music, to out of this world bridal fashion), but we know that the stress of putting together days like this might not be for everyone. And for that reason, elopements are a great alternative because a simple, intimate day with just you and your sweetheart (and a photog you both love) doesn’t put any pressure on you to having a larger than life floral arch or entertainment all of your guests will love. You get to focus on something a little bit simpler and a lot longer lasting, your love story and your future together.

-Location
Lastly, a really neat factor about elopements is that they can take place pretty much anywhere your heart desires. You can take a more classic route and head to the courthouse or they can be in the middle of a desert. The world is truly your oyster when it comes to eloping and while we have a few favorite locations that we adore for elopements here in New Mexico, we love seeing how they unfold across the globe.

Wedding Inspo - Pampas Grass

We’ve always had a soft spot for that soft, flowy, ever so subtlety-netural toned plant known as pampas grass, so when this pretty little plant started to take off in the wedding world, we were absolutely thrilled to capture it even more!

Originating from Southern American countries including Chile, Argentina, and Brazil, pampas grass was first introduced to the United States in Santa Barbara, California in the mid 1800s. And while this plant can sometimes push out other vegetation, it still manages to be extremely beautiful, unique, and very photogenic. Besides its common golden-yellow hue, pampas grass can also grow in colors from silvery-white to a soft pink (two shades that we want to see up close and personal).

Over the past few seasons, we’ve seen more brides and grooms take advantage of this versatile plant in their wedding decor. From using it as an accents in bridal bouquets and boutonnieres to subtlety placing it in reception centerpieces to adorning floral headpieces with it to letting it take center stage in both ceremony arches and aisle arrangements, the range of of what pampas grass can do truly seems unlimited!

We have a feeling that this interesting plant is here to stay for a few more seasons (and hopefully forever in the wedding world) and honestly we can’t wait to see what our couples do with it next. Long live pampas grass and all the bohemian vibes it encompasses on wedding days!

Wedding Inspo - Bridal Bouquets

Wedding trends may come and go, but one thing that’s here to stay forever are dreamy bridal bouquets! We see a ton of these beauties each season and they come in just about every style, from the chic romantic arrangements to the wild boho stunners to larger-than-life ultra colorful varieties. We’re not history buffs, but we wanted to share just a few of our favorite facts about bridal bouquets!!!

The tradition of brides carrying bouquets down the aisle (and, in our case, all over) on wedding days stems back to ancient Roman times. Back then, bouquets were not only made of herbs, spices, and grains, but they were thought to ward off evil spirits and signify new beginnings. However, more modern floral bouquets didn’t pop up in the wedding scene until the mid 1800s during the Victorian era and tended to only include roses (we can’t deny how much we love this stunner of a flower). During this time period, sending specific flowers (based on their meanings) to a lover became increasingly popular, leading many brides to pick flowers for their bridal bouquets that best reflected their ideals.

Flashing forward to the 21st century and bridal bouquets come in soooo many amazing colors, varieties, and sizes that we’re truly overwhelmed by all the beauty! We can’t wait to see what new twists our 2020 brides will take with their own florals. Cheers to hundreds of more insanely beautiful bouquets!!!

Something Ginger, a Bridal Beauty Collective

Every bride knows that on her wedding day she needs a few special touches to make her day that much more special, from something borrowed to something new. But this year, there’s a unique kind of tradition for brides to add to the start of their new chapters, Something Ginger.

Founded by long time gal pals and ultra talented hair and makeup artists, Diana Rose and Kata Baron, Something Ginger is a bridal collective based out of Albuquerque, NM that aims to provide a unique wedding day experience for every bride out there. With a focus on inner and outer beauty paired with a whole lot of fiery girl power and positive vibes, this squad is looking to not only make brides beautiful, but to spread self-love and confidence to every person they cross paths with this year.

We were beyond excited to be a part of this styled shoot at Terese Romero’s dreamy downtown studio for Something Ginger’s launch this past December. Everything element of this bridal session was absolute perfection, from Terese Romero’s iconic black wedding gown to Darling Details’ velvet chair to our model Maria’s natural elegance to, of course, the beauty expertise of Diana and Kata!

These ginger babes are about to bring a whole new energy to New Mexico and beyond, can’t wait to see all the beauty you lovelies create. Cheers to Something Ginger, truly the start of something wonderful!!!
