2021, a Year with ALP

After the truly life changing year the was 2020, we knew that this year was going to be incredibly special as the world finally opened back up for big weddings and celebrations of all kinds. Our 2021 couples filled our cups to the brim with the must stunning days that we’ll cherish for seasons to come.

If going back to a full wedding season wasn’t exciting enough for us, we were also beyond lucky to travel to so many gorgeous new locations this year. From the vast wine country of Austin to the dreamy mountains of Taos to the ever mystic Ghost Ranch to all the new little spaces in Santa Fe, our scenery was far from the ordinary. On top of this, so many of our couples were finally able to celebrate with all of their friends and family, an experience that we will never take for granted ever again.

Cheers to all the new adventures with the best couples in the most stellar of places, we can’t wait for all that 2022 is sure to bring our way.

Wedding Inspo - Winter Weddings + Elopements

The temperature might be getting more and more chilly, but we know that winter weddings and elopements always bring the heat. Even though we don’t capture a ton of cold weather celebrations, the ones that we get to be a part of are so incredibly divine.

Winter nuptials are not only insanely beautiful, they’re also deeply serene. From the cozy, romantic little moments to the way this time of year just ushers in those quiet, intimate gatherings, weddings in the coldest part of the year are beyond enchanting.

Keeping our fingers crossed for even more of these magical days in the future, we’re forever in love with celebrations of love in the middle of winter.

2021 Wedding + Elopement Trends

Despite all of the uncertainty and struggle of 2020, we’ve seen so many amazing things start to take hold in the wedding industry. From recognizing how amazing small, intentional celebrations can be to couples taking chances on brand new ideas for their special day, we’ve truly been in awe over all of it. We’re hoping that a few of the trends we’ve been crushing on become major elements of weddings and elopements in 2021!

We’re currently obsessed with:
- unique + colorful bridal gowns
- bright + funky florals
- soft baby’s breath bouquets
- tiny, intimate ceremonies with just friends + family
- unique, avant-garde cakes

2020 - Moments with Alicia Lucia Photography

2020 was by far one of the most challenging years our team has ever faced, yet through all the difficult descisons and make-or-break moments, we still found the light on the other side of it all.

After an intense global pandemic forced our weddings and shoots to a screeching halt, we weren’t sure what to do, but somehow we found a new path and gained a better perspective on our lives, our business, and our community. We found new ways to capture weddings/elopements and support our couples as they navigated this insane year. And we also found even more opportunities to create beauty through styled shoots and portrait sessions. If one thing is sure, 2020 reminded us of why we set out to do what we do in the first place: love. Watching love win over and over and over again this year, despite all of the odds was something to behold. And we once again fell in love with with what we have the immense privilege of doing, capturing those undeniably beautiful moments of pure joy.

The biggest thank you from the bottom of our hearts goes out to every single couple, family, and individual who continually put their trust in us during a year where everything was uncertain, yet everything mattered even more. And to all of our vendor friends, thank you for riding this one out with us, we’ve never had so much faith in the wedding community as we do right here and now.

No year will ever be quite like 2020, and while we’re grateful to see beacons of hope at start of the new year, we’re forever be grateful for the year that gave us all a chance to start anew and to believe in the magic that is love.

What We Heart About Santa Fe Weddings

Anyone who knows our team has seen how much we adore Santa Fe weddings and all of the amazing little spots where we’ve captured our couples and their love stories. From its vast architecture to it rich culture, Santa Fe is a gem among the Southwest and we feel so dang lucky to spend so much time exploring it.

One of the most iconic locations for weddings is, of course, the Santa Fe Plaza, but what many don’t realize is the vast number of different venues of all shapes and sizes for weddings.

Do you want a huge wedding with a parade around the historic plaza followed by an outdoor reception? There are several hotels including La Fonda on the Plaza, The Inn and Spa at Loretto, and La Posada de Santa Fe that are pros at these celebrations.

Or are you a bit more low-key and want an intimate wedding at a stunning hacienda or tiny inn? Spots like Hacienda Corta Caro and The Inn of the Five Graces are the coziest of wedding nooks.

Maybe you want a venue with an iconic past or one that’s even an art gallery? Places like Peters Projects at Gerald Peters Gallery, SITE Santa Fe, and The Santa Fe Opera are just a few of those unique, art focused spaces.

There’s even two incredibly famous churches right on the plaza, Loretto Chapel and The Cathedral Basilica of St Francis of Assisi, for more traditional weddings.

And what about places for couples wanting to venture a bit outside of the usual Santa Fe scene for venues nestled among the mountains and vast New Mexican landscape? Venues like La Mesita Ranch Estate, Las Campanas, Hacienda Doña Andrea, and Four Seasons Santa Fe all provide amazing views and details for any and all weddings they host.

Not only does Santa Fe have so many amazing venues, but so many unique New Mexican and Southwestern traditions have stayed in style season after season in The City Different. Every season mariachi parades around the plaza take center stage, tequila donkeys like sweet Conchita make an appearance at receptions, and all the chili, cactus, and skull details accent every inch of weddings. We love how couples from near and far fully embrace all the special little pieces of Santa Fe that we have such a soft spot for. And we can’t help but absolutely love it even more when our lovers from previous wedding seasons continue to visit Santa Fe year after year just to always have a part of the Southwest with them.

In our eyes, any venue in Santa Fe is the perfect venue and every tradition is beyond special. We’ve been so fortunate to capture a huge amount of couples in the most unique locations and honestly, we can’t wait to explore new places with brand new love stories.

Ashwin + Lauren, a Hindu-Catholic Wedding in Santa Fe

When sweet Lauren and Ashwin first reached out to us last summer about capturing their two day Catholic-Hindu wedding, we knew it would be like nothing we’ve ever been a part of before. This past Labor Day weekend, these kind souls tied the knot and celebrated the melding of two very different, but very beautiful cultures.

Lauren and Ashwin met, and eventually fell in love, while on call in a hospital while both working on their medical residency at Harvard in Boston, MA. Even though Ashwin, who was two years ahead of Lauren, went to Philadelphia, PA for his cardiology fellowship, these two not only made a long distance relationship work for three years (!), but their relationship became that much stronger. Ashwin surprised Lauren by proposing in his apartment right before dinner and the rest is history. In Lauren’s words, “We are truly best friends and love that we constantly make each other laugh and inspire each other to be the best versions of ourselves” We adore how much these two love and care for each other, something that was so tangible and beautiful throughout their weekend in Santa Fe.

Day one of Ashwin and Lauren’s wedding consisted of a traditional Catholic wedding at the historic Cathedral Basilica of St Francis of Assisi, right in the heart of Santa Fe. Lauren blended super classic and gorgeous bridal details like her pastel bouquet and dreamy Pnina Tornai gown with stunning Henna on both her hands and feet. After their beautiful church wedding, Lauren + Ashwin and their guests were led to The Inn and Spa at Loretto by Mariachis (because what Santa Fe is complete without them?!). We got to spend an entire hour (!) with these lovers just strolling around the plaza and taking more gorgeous romantics than we ever could have asked for. With a whole lot of wedding day beauty, from Floriography’s stunning floral elephant (named Gus btw) and Maggie’s Wedding Cake’s bright and colorful Indian themed cake, along with the always stunning planning of Just Lovely Weddings, their reception was out of this world. They kicked it off with traditional speeches, cake cutting (Lauren cut the cake with a sword!), and a first dance, before changing into beautiful, traditional Hindu attire to party the rest of the night away! Lauren surprised Ashwin with a speech in his native Indian language and performed an Indian dance with her friends. Their reception included the best mix of Indian, American, and Latino music we’ve ever heard.

The first day of this incredible weekend was one that our team will never forget, we were so honored to capture such a tender, compassionate, and thoroughly genuine love story. Ashwin + Lauren, we love you and how much your love inspires us!!!

Styled Sunday - Rocky Mountain Bride at Los Poblanos

As all of our friends know, we are huge fangirls of Los Poblanos Historic Inn and Organic Farm, our favorite little Albuquerque gem tucked away in the gorgeous North Valley. So when the amazing gals at Rocky Mountain Bride reached out and asked us to capture a new wedding feature for Los Poblanos, we were over the moon!

At the end of last October, we teamed up with some of our favorite vendor besties and made major magic happen right at the peak of fall. We even convinced two of our fave, real-life sweethearts, Carolyn and Paul, to dress up as our bride and groom for the day. Amid the stunning fall foliage, impeccable planning and details came together for one of the craziest, most amazing days ever! We shot a dreamy three day wedding weekend including an insanely yummy welcome brunch and game of bocce ball on day one, followed by bike rides and drink tasting for the boys and flower crown making for the girls on day two, and then the gorgeous, intimate wedding on the final day of festivities.

We were soooo thrilled to be a part of this stunner of a shoot, cheers to many more whimsical, incredible days like this one!!!

Josh + Delaney, a Paa-Ko Ridge Wedding

Long before they had the dreamiest mountain top wedding at Paa-ko Ridge Gold Club, Josh and Delaney met through Greek life events in the fall of 2014 at New Mexico State University. These babes instantly clicked, Delaney admired Josh for his quick wit and incredibly caring heart while Josh was immediately smitten with Delaney’s bubbly personality and her genuine beauty. While still in college Josh lavilered Delaney (a Greek life tradition wherein a fraternity brother presents his significant other with a necklace of his frat letters as a symbol of commitment and love. Major swoon right?!) and knew that she was his forever.

In fall of 2017 Josh decided to make it last name official and proposed to Delaney during holiday photos in the Albuquerque foothills. Knowing how important Delaney’s sorority sisters are to her, Josh made sure that he popped the question right before her final college semester so that she could celebrate her engagement with her closest friends.

We ventured up to Par-ko Ridge Golf Club this October to capture these lovers with one of the most genuine, heartfelt days of the year. From opting for pre-ceremony letter reading near each other instead of a first look to having one of their close friends officiate the ceremony to partying all night, Josh and Delaney were so much fun to hang with for one magical day! We also low-key loved when Delaney and her dad, Sam, shared a quick little pre ceremony drink. Cheers Josh and Delaney, we hope marriage is a blast.

P.S. lets throw a giant party in the mountains again soon okay?

The only thing more exciting than the beginning of October and the amazing season of fall, is all of the incredible floral color palettes that come out this time of the year.  From deep reds, to soft pops of orange, to dark berry details & classic creams, its hard to pick our fave floral combination for this season. We decided to showcase some of the most epic bouquets, killer ceremony florals, and downright incredible reception arrangements from a few of New Mexico’s most amazing florists.  We’re beyond ready for all the beauty to come this autumn!

Dustin + Ashley, a Los Poblanos Wedding

A love story that started as a sweet high school romance came full circle this past June, when Dustin and Ashley tied the knot on a rainy day at Los Poblanos Historic Inn and Organic Farm. These lovers became official in 2009 while attending Manzano High School in Albuquerque, NM and shortly after, Dustin proposed in 2011 at the top of the Sandia Peak (in the exact same spot where Ashley became his girlfriend only two years before). Fast forward to almost 9 whole years of love when these darlings threw an incredible party for the people that they love the most! Joined by family and friends from both college and other parts of life, Dustin and Ashley topped off their sweet day with so many incredible details including gorgeous moody florals, a divine Victorian inspired wedding gown, tiny pots of honey for wedding guest favors, and even cufflinks for the groom from former president Barrack Obama. Don’t mind us as we continue to swoon over everything from this day’s color palette to Dustin and Ashley’s ultra romanic portraits around the Los Poblanos grounds! Congrats to the new Mr+Mrs. Chavez, we loved every last little bit of your day!!
