Jonathan + Alyssa, a Divine Bishop's Lodge Wedding

On the most serene September day, Jon and Alyssa said “I do” at the ever ethereal Bishop’s Lodge in the heart of Santa Fe. These East Coast angels’ soirée was one of pure beauty, joy, and, of course, love.

Long before they made it official, Jon and Alyssa first met on an auspicious evening in New York City that can only truly be described as fate. Alyssa, who was visiting the city prior to officially moving to NYC, was out with friends at an almost empty bar when she spotted Jon eating dinner and reading a book alone. She approached him and they immediately clicked. Jon and Alyssa connected with each other so well on their first meeting that they spent the very next day at a museum together. Once Alyssa made the move to NYC, the stars aligned for these two to fall effortlessly in love with each other. A few short years later, Jon popped the question on Valentine’s Day (which he knew was a day Alyssa would never suspect) with the NYC skyline as the perfect backdrop and their friends waiting nearby to celebrate with pizza and champagne.

These lovers decided that New Mexico would be the most stunning place for their nuptials and found Bishop’s Lodge, a dreamy venue right off of the Santa Fe Plaza. From there, Jon and Alyssa let the plans for their divine wedding unfold, despite having to work around the pandemic and all of these challenges. When their special day finally arrived, it was truly a celebration that can only be described as charmed from beginning to end. Every last second of Jon and Alyssa’s very first day of marriage had the deepest sense of “je ne se quoi” that we have ever witnessed. Alyssa’s vintage yet elevated bridal look, Floriography’s truly heavenly floral creations, and the pure ambiance of Bishop’s Lodge historic presence came together in perfect harmony for a day that no one in attendance is sure to forget any time soon. Even the quietest moments of these two alone, soaking in their first moments of newlywed bliss, felt like scenes from the most perfectly captured film. And if all of this wasn’t enough, to hear their loved ones toast to them and their love with the highest of praise was truly something beyond words.

These two inspired us in more ways than one, cheers to Alyssa + Jon and what will truly be a love story worthy of the silver screen.

Caleb + Erin, an Ethereal Hacienda Doña Andrea Wedding

Every season we get to be around some of the most wonderful humans on the planet, but once in a great while we get to meet couples that truly leave us speechless in the best way possible. Caleb and Erin are two souls who truly embody everything we believe about love, kindness, compassion, and beauty. Being a tiny part of their magnificent August day was one of the greatest gifts we received last season.

Long before they graced us with their presence, Caleb and Erin were both in college at Doane University in Create, Nebraska when they met each other by chance at a dance club on campus. They ended up performing in a small show together, but fell out of touch afterwards. A few years later, Caleb and Erin once again crossed paths while at a bar, this time through mutual friends, and hit it off. Erin, being the absolute QUEEN she is, decided to shoot her shot and went in for a kiss just as the bartender announced last call. Caleb sent Erin a Snapchat the very next and the rest is truly history.

A few years down the road in early 2020, Erin made the journey down to Albuquerque to visit Caleb, not knowing that he had been planning to propose to her during her trip. After his initial masterplan of proposing at Tent Rocks fell through due to closures, Caleb secretly coordinated with their friends and family to change plans and took Erin up on a little hike in the Sandia Mountains. After convincing Erin to bring along her camera to take a few photos using the self-timer, Caleb popped the question to which Erin said YES (and he captured it all on camera, just like Erin had always dreamed of).

In the summer of 2021, these angels made it last name official at one of our favorite spots near Santa Fe, Hacienda Doña Andrea. This joyful day was truly plucked out of a movie, Erin and Caleb’s celebration was one that touched everyone present. Wedding designer extraordinaire Molly Donovan made this dream day go off without a hitch while the babes at Manmade and Sage created florals that perfectly blended modern elegance, Southwestern flair, and under-the-sea vibes. On top of this, Erin’s bridal style was ethereal beyond belief; she included soft glam by Ashley of Betty Rose by Alanna and Jewel Hair Design alongside an effortlessly divine Alena Leena gown. And if their details weren’t enough, Caleb and Erin’s ceremony had everyone in tears when they expressed their unending love for each other. Caleb and Erin finished off their unforgettable day with romantics on the roof (!!!!) and a reception filled with incredible food and timeless music. Truth be told, not even a little bit of rainfall could stop these hunnies from partying it up all night long in the name of love.

We’ll forever have the most love and gratitude for these babes and for their little August day. Caleb and Erin, we adore you guys, let’s do it all again soon?

Skylar + Hannah, a Ski Santa Fe Proposal

When sweet Skylar reached out to us about capturing his surprise proposal to his love Hannah, we knew it was going to be a breathtaking day. These high school sweethearts officially got engaged during one of their many snowboarding days at Ski Santa Fe and we were so thrilled to be a tiny part of it.

Skylar and Hannah first began dating right before their senior year of high school and have absolutely inseparable ever since. Their love endured as they tackled college, buying a house, and a whole lot of adventures together. These cuties love hiking and snowboarding as well as hanging out with their fur babies Winston and Walter. Even though they’re freshly engaged, Skylar and Hannah hope to tie the knot up in beautiful Colorado.

We’re the biggest fans of all the surprise proposal, especially when they involve the coolest locations. We can’t wait to see all the new love stories unfold this season!

Lisa + Vina, an Ethereal White Sands Proposal

When sweet angel Lisa fist reached out to us about capturing her surprise proposal to long-time partner Vina at White Sands National Park, we knew it was going to be an incredibly beautiful moment to capture. We never could have imagined how deeply we would be touched by these two or how epic their day in southern New Mexico would truly be.

Vina and Lisa first met nearly a decade in 2012 ago via Tumblr as they both worked as graphic designers. At first they were both surprised with how attracted they were to each other (neither had been in a LGBTQ relationship before), but before long these cuties knew that they were destined for one another. After several years of long distance and then finally living together, Lisa and Vina set out to move back to the Bay Area together and start their next chapter.

We knew months in advance that Lisa would be surprising Vina with a proposal, but Lisa didn’t know that Vina would propose back home in California just a short time before their journey to New Mexico! When the day of their White Sands visit finally happened, Vina instantly said yes to Lisa’s proposal. We got to catch every sweet second of it and roam around this heavenly national park with these babes. And, as if the universe didn’t already prove that Lisa and Vina’s love was written in the stars, Mother Nature sent the most stunning rainbow over White Sands just in time.

We’ll forever be so blown away by those stories of our couples who make it through it all together, it truly is the biggest highlight of our jobs. Cheers to these angels, we can’t freaking wait to capture their 2023 wedding in Los Gatos, California!!!

Jebb + Abbie, a Joyful Backyard Wedding

If there’s one kind of wedding we just can’t get enough of, its definitely those intimate backyard weddings. Last summer, Montana cuties Abbie and Jebb invited us to share in their deeply emotional, beyond serene, and incredibly joyful day in Santa Fe.

These two angels first met several years while ice skating on New Years Day in Kalispell, Montana. For Jebb and Abbie, it was love at first sight and their love grew over the years. They spent time skiing, hiking, and enjoying all things outdoors together, eventually leading them to fall more in love with each other’s curiosity for the world and zest for adventure. Jebb and Abbie eventually moved to Jebb’s hometown of Santa Fe with their cutie pie dog, Scout, roughly four years ago and are working on building their new home together.

For their wedding day, these two knew that they wanted it to be truly personal so they settled on a tiny wedding with only their closest friends and family present. Jebb and Abbie were also incredibly intentional with their details including a bouquet and cake made by the bride herself (trust us when we say they are STUNNING), accessories made by local artists, and a reception table were all guests were able to sit together. And if those touches weren’t enough, Jebb and Abbie’s ceremony was one that left everyone in tears of pure happiness and love. To top it all off, we loved spending a few quiet moments with these babes among some beautifully lush greenery with the softest golden hour light surrounding them.

Tiny weddings always leave us so speechless and in total awe, we’re forever in love with those days that take out breath away!

Bobby + D'anndra, a Romantic Hacienda Doña Andrea Styled Elopement

After a full year of planning and postponing, we were finally able to make one of the dreamiest styled shoot-outs a reality! Along with the most stellar vendor team, we created one of the most beautiful days at our favorite place, Hacienda Doña Andrea, and invited other local photographers to capture this stunning day alongside us.

Even though we had to wait an extra year to make this day happen, it was beyond freaking worth it. Our vendor friends pulled out all the stops for this one and it’ll be a day we never forget. For the dreamiest bridal glam, Ashley and Savannah of Betty Rose by Alanna made our bride D’anndra absolutely glow! And if that wasn’t enough, our friends at Bridal Elegance by Darlene sent over not only one, but two divine bridal gowns for us to capture. To top off all that style, our bride and groom got to wear the most beautiful jewelry pieces by PAZ as well as Desert Gold Fine Jewelry.

When we started manifesting this shoot in 2020, we knew it wouldn’t be complete with our angel Lauren from Just Lovely Weddings and Darling Details Rentals and dang did she make all of our dreams come true. From the coziest lounge area to the dreamiest reception scene to a ceremony set-up that perfectly complimented the vast open beauty of Northern New Mexico, Lauren brought all the magic and then some. And to add a little extra beauty to this day, Letterpress Made created the most softly minimal paper goods while Three Baby Birds gave us the cake of our dreams. To close out this gorgeous October evening, we took things to the roof where our models, Bobby and D’annadra brought the heat to one of the chilliest evenings of the fall.

Even though we don’t get to host big styled shoot-outs often, evenings like this one remind us why we love doing them so much. Cheers to bringing even more magic to the NM wedding community in 2022!!!

Jeremy + Kaite, a Dreamy Los Poblanos Engagement

As if our 2022 couples couldn’t get any dreamier, Jeremy and Kaite walked into our lives and dang are they an absolute joy to know. These Alaskan angels are tying the knot this fall at Los Poblanos and we were so thrilled to spend the prettiest evening with them.

These cuties first met at a huge pharmaceutical dinner in 2017 in Anchorage , Alaska and even though they caught each others eye, Jeremy and Kaite did officially meet for another 4-6 weeks at another dinner. Jeremy, who was absolutely intent on getting Kaite’s number, finally made the connection happen and soon these two were on their first date. After a few years together, living with their fur baby Toulouse and creating their own indoor jungle in Alaska, these two started a new chapter when Jeremy proposed to Kaite at Pu'uhonua O Hōnaunau National Historical Park in Hawaii.

We can’t wait to see these babes again this September for the most intimate truly divine wedding day!!!

Wedding Inspo - Winter Weddings + Elopements

The temperature might be getting more and more chilly, but we know that winter weddings and elopements always bring the heat. Even though we don’t capture a ton of cold weather celebrations, the ones that we get to be a part of are so incredibly divine.

Winter nuptials are not only insanely beautiful, they’re also deeply serene. From the cozy, romantic little moments to the way this time of year just ushers in those quiet, intimate gatherings, weddings in the coldest part of the year are beyond enchanting.

Keeping our fingers crossed for even more of these magical days in the future, we’re forever in love with celebrations of love in the middle of winter.

Kevin + Caroline, a Charming La Posada de Santa Fe Wedding

Texas sweethearts Kevin and Caroline brought the absolute party to Santa Fe this summer and it was truly beyond our dreams. Every last detail of this gorgeous day was not only unique, but so dang perfect.

These cuties first met a long time ago in high school, but sparks didn’t fly between Kevin and Caroline until one college break when they were both home with mutual friends. Even thought they started off as best friends, once these two realized how special their connection was, they quickly fell in love. In 2019, Kevin completely surprised Caroline and popped the question surrounded by their close friends and family.

Since these two call Midland, TX home, Caroline and Kevin wanted to have their wedding in a city that gave them that small town feel and Santa Fe was perfect. They soon decided that La Posada de Santa Fe would be the prettiest place to say “I do” and these lovers found the most killer vendor team to make all of their wedding dreams come true. From the luxe floral designs and amazing planning by A Beautiful Theme to the gorgeous water color details by Pearly Gates Designs to the most elegant custom bridal gown by Lea Ann Belter to the most dapper blue wedding tux by The Black Tux, these Texas babes pulled out all the stops for their beyond lovely day.

Robert + Betsy, an Intimate Ten Thousand Waves Elopement

Right in the middle of our insanely busy summer wedding season we got to spend the most quiet, perfect weekday with lovers Robert and Betsy for their elopement. These cuties made it official at the iconic Ten Thousands Waves Japanese Resort and it was truly perfection.

Even though these two worked next door to each other, Robert and Betsy initially met online and had an immediate attraction. After a while, these two knew it was meant to be and decided that they wanted to be together forever. Robert and Betsy opted out of a big wedding for a tiny elopement; they were officially married at the Santa Fe Courthouse with only their witnesses, officiant, and Betsy’s mom (on FaceTime!) present.

Robert and Betsy decided to celebrate their union with a mini staycation at Ten Thousand Waves, a place that reminds them deeply of their treasured Japan trip from a few years ago. These lovers incorporated a few soft, minimalist details into their including a dreamy bouquet, custom ring, and coordinating linen attire for an effortlessly simple feel. We loved exploring this special location on the most stellar summer day with these angels.

Cheers to more dreamy little elopements in all the amazing, unconventional locations, we’re so down for it all!!

Behind the Camera with Alicia

There’s a lot going on in the world right now and amid all of the uncertainty, change, and eventual growth, we’re spending a little time reflecting on our team’s past, present, and future. Our head gal in charge Alicia sat down for a little behind the scenes Q&A and we talked everything Alicia Lucia Photography; from her sweet little beginnings as a photographer to cultivating her business and her team, to why she has major heart eyes for New Mexico, and the future of ALP including just a few of the international (!!!) places she’d love to capture weddings and elopements in once the world reaches a sense of calm again. She also shouted her favorite couples, weddings, and styled shoots from the last few years, and trust us when we say that they are absolutely iconic days for our team!

Alicia + New Mexico, a Match Made in Southwest Heaven

All of my childhood & adulthood, from as early as I can remember, has been spent in our beautiful southwest state. We moved from Texas to New Mexico for a job opportunity that my dad had and have called New Mexico home for the last 20+ years! I love it so much and don't see myself living anywhere else. It has become a huge source of inspiration for my work! Both personally and professionally, I love that New Mexico is our home base for a multitude of reasons, but most importantly i love how we have a variety of drastic environments. I can be shooting a gorgeous desert bridal session in the middle of the white ridge mesa and in 45 minutes can get to our wooded forest for a hike with my family. It's vast and beautiful, it's where I met my husband, where we got married, had both of our children, it's home to both of our businesses and I wouldn't change any of it for the world! Outside of work, we love spending most of our time outside, whether it's going or bike rides, hiking, fishing, (day) camping lol, or working on our ever growing garden!!

Alicia’s Photography Roots

I got into photography way back when we still were developing prints in a lab! I was around 13 years old when a family friend gifted me my first film camera & was totally that friend in highschool snapping away. In college, I pursued a different route, but deep down I always had a love for documenting people, places and love through photography. In 2012 I got the opportunity of assisting on a few weddings and in the fall of 2012 I shot my very first elopement solo! It was such a special experience and one that I will always treasure and be forever grateful for. I remember it like yesterday, I was a ball of nerves, but so happy and ecstatic to be given the chance.

Alicia Lucia Photography’s Beginnings + Growth

I started the company in 2013 and by 2015 we had already shot over 25+ weddings/elopements and brought on Ashley to shoot full time as co-lead!

By 2017 we were growing at the speed of light. It was a bummer to not be able to take on as much work because I was either busy shooting or growing our social media. That winter, I decided to outsource all social media and blogging and brought on Jaclyn our amazing social media and blogger maven. Soon after, I went full time on booking out weddings to Ashley, Bre, and me! It's been amazing so far and are able to be a part of documenting that many more love stories!!

On the Horizon for ALP

The future is such a loaded idea and one that I never do super great with. The uncertainty of the future, especially now with COVID-19 terrifys me, but I know our little team will make it through and I honestly seeing us traveling the world at some point! I would love for us to go beyond our home state and the Southwest region, and shoot across the country and world at some point! My top international destinations are Morocco (and other regions of Africa) and Iceland!

Fave Wedding Moments

Truly love it all. Every last part of it. Even when the nerves and anticipation from the slight chaos and tight schedules sets in, it's part of the thrill! I'd say the most memorable part of the day for me is getting to document the emotion of pure joy and elation at the realization of being just married after the couples come down the aisle! Their look and embrace to each other is always so sincere and sweet! That and the parent dances always, ALWAYS gets me.

The Best New Wedding Ideas + Trends

I'm loving that couples are doing their own thing, wholeheartedly! That they aren't going the traditional route, just for the sake of tradition and instead are opting for details or parts of the day that are true to them. We are seeing less of the bouquet and garter throwing, smaller or no bridal parties at all and brides who have multiple looks because who says you should only wear one dress or look? Couples who are writing their own vows or having friends and family members officiate. Couples who are opting for less of the structured photo time and instead just want candids and being intentional with guests, friends, and family! I really love the direction we're headed to, more intentional, wholesome and meaningful!

A Little Note to All the Lovers Out There

There is no right or wrong way to host your wedding, do what feels right and true to you. Try to not get caught up or stressed on the fine details and instead remember the real reason why you are celebrating! Also consider a day of coordinator. (hint: Lauren with Just Lovely Weddings + Darling Details Rentals is truly the best of the best!!)

Wedding Inspo - Why We Adore Elopements

Here in New Mexico, our team thrives in shooting the many big, bold, beautiful weddings all over the state, but we also live for the moments when we get to be a part of the sweet, quaint, intimate elopements! Just like larger, more traditional weddings, the main focus is always love, devotion and commitment, however, elopements tend to be much simpler and, of course, much much smaller. Here’s a few reasons why we have a soft spot for elopements!

- Intimacy
While we absolutely love getting to spend the day capturing those huge celebrations, there’s something magical about being alone with a couple sharing their first moments of married life with no one else around. We of course get to see lots of the same emotions as a traditional wedding ceremony, but we get to be even more up close and personal with our couples which makes it that much more meaningful for us behind the cameras.

-Cost
Its no surprise that elopements cost much less than average weddings do and today many couples all over the world are opting for elopements for just this reason. You can still get a stunning gown, a pretty bouquet, and a stellar hair/makeup artist without spending too much cash which is a huge bonus of elopements. In financially hard times, elopements are a great way to still look and feel amazing on your wedding day while still supporting a few small businesses along the way.

-Stress
Most of our wedding seasons consist of pretty big wedding days with some jaw dropping details (from floral installations, to killer reception music, to out of this world bridal fashion), but we know that the stress of putting together days like this might not be for everyone. And for that reason, elopements are a great alternative because a simple, intimate day with just you and your sweetheart (and a photog you both love) doesn’t put any pressure on you to having a larger than life floral arch or entertainment all of your guests will love. You get to focus on something a little bit simpler and a lot longer lasting, your love story and your future together.

-Location
Lastly, a really neat factor about elopements is that they can take place pretty much anywhere your heart desires. You can take a more classic route and head to the courthouse or they can be in the middle of a desert. The world is truly your oyster when it comes to eloping and while we have a few favorite locations that we adore for elopements here in New Mexico, we love seeing how they unfold across the globe.
