Jebb + Abbie, a Beautiful New Mexico Engagement

When we say we’re in love with Jebb + Abbie’s sweet story, we mean that we’re absolutely head-over-heels in love with these cuties. We spent a perfect summer evening capturing their engagement right near where these Montana babes are laying the roots for their new home and it was beyond beautiful.

Jebb and Abbie first met while ice skating in Montana and immediately connected over their mutual love for all things outdoors, adventure, and curiosity about the world. They eventually moved to Santa Fe with their pup Scout and are currently both teachers. These hunnies spend their free time gardening, cooking, and learning together (our dream life tbh).

Needless to share, we’re obsessed with these Jebb + Abbie and can’t wait to share their amazing backyard wedding so soon!

Michael + Kieu-Vi, an Ethereal White Sands Engagement

When Houston sweethearts Michael and Kieu-Vi reached out to us about capturing their gorgeous engagement at White Sands National Park, we knew it would be an unreal evening. These two and their love for each other were an absolute dream to witness and we’re clearly still up in the clouds over this session.

These lovers have been together for almost 11 years and Michael was even Kieu-Vi’s first boyfriend! They were immediately smitten with each other when they first met and haven’t been apart since. Together they’ve learned to love the individual growth they’ve experienced after a whole decade of love. Michael and Kieu-Vi are making it last name official this fall in Houston.

We adore all of the breathtakingly beautiful evenings we get to spend at White Sands, cheers to even more magic at this gem of a location.

Garrett + Kyla, a Captivating Desert Engagement

On the dreamiest June evening we got to hang out with longtime sweethearts Garrett and Kyla at one of our favorite little spots in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains. These cuties were seriously everything and more.

Besides this engagement being one of the dreamiest, were were so excited to get a quiet evening alone with Garrett and Kyla during their wedding week. They made it official with an incredibly romantic, super colorful celebration at Four Seasons Santa Fe.

We can’t wait to share all the beauty from these lovers’ wedding, but until then we’ll be right here obsessing over their amazing engagement.

Colin + Amber, a Dreamy Desert Engagement

We started off our summer engagements with these little darlings at a coveted spot in all the Southwest. Colin and Amber made this sweet evening so dang fun and beautiful.

The two first met on a dating app about 4 years ago and immediately hit it off with their mutual love for all things outdoors and being total homebodies (the best combination— in our opinion). A few years, and many fur babies later, these sweethearts are making it last name official with a gorgeous garden-inspired wedding at Amber’s grandfather’s home in the heart of Albuquerque's North Valley.

We can’t wait to capture all of the magic this fall with Colin and Amber!!!

Doug + Ray, a Romantic Desert Engagement

Earlier this spring we got to hang out with Doug and Ray for a whole evening and dang was it such an amazing night. These San Francisco hunnies are tying the knot in Santa Fe this fall, but we loved seeing them out in the wilds of New Mexico for the most gorgeous engagement session.

These two have been together for almost 7 years and first met in college, they even shared their first kiss at a Childish Gambino concert! All these years later, Ray and Doug still love doing new things together from skiing to playing pickle ball to trying all the amazing foods out there.

Doug and Ray are making their love story official with a dreamy Southwestern wedding complete with a ceremony at the historic Cathedral Basilica de Saint Francis of Assisi and a huge party at La Posada de Santa Fe. We can’t wait to celebration with these west coast babes in The City Different this October!!!

Rudy + Deana, a Desert Engagement

Our pretty spring engagement season started with long-time Texas lovers Rudy and Deana. These babes traveled all the way from the Lone Star State with their fur baby, Belle, for a breezy, yet completely beautiful evening in the desert.

Rudy and Deana first met over five years ago and even though they started off as friends, they eventually started dating and have been together ever since. They went to the same college, have a shared friend group, and even worked together for a bit. These hunnies are making it official up in Oregon with an intimate Cannon Beach wedding later on this year.

This evening with these cuties was nothing short of a dream, we’re still so obsessed with Rudy and Deana. Cheers to all the dreamy lovers and to the most stellar Southwestern evenings in our favorite desert spot!

When we found out that our incredibly talented, absolutely amazing friend Lauren of Just Lovely Weddings and Darling Details Rentals was engaged, we were beyond excited for her. Not only only is this gal one of the best in the industry, but Lauren has an absolute heart of gold and we’re always over the moon when we get to work with her.

When her and Chris reached out to book us for their beautiful Old Town engagement session and their Las Vegas wedding (!!!!!!!!!!) next year, we were seriously on cloud nine!! Congrats again darling Lauren and sweet Chris, we can not wait for all the fun that is to come next year!

Adam + Shubha, a Desert Engagement

East coast lovers Adam and Shubha might be new to the Southwest, but we’re so beyond excited for these babes to kick off their next chapter in New Mexico. We loved hanging with them on this chilly, but completely gorgeous desert evening!

Even though they didn’t know each other for long, Adam and Shubha knew their love was meant to be from the very beginning. They initially met in Baltimore, MD and after exploring their city (and Canada and Seoul and London!) together, these hunnies decided to keep exploring side-by-side for the rest of their lives. Once Adam received a job offer in the Southwest, they knew it was time for a brand new beginning.

We’re so beyond excited to celebrate with these two this spring high up in the mountains at Four Seasons Santa Fe!

Adrian + Bridget, a Desert Proposal

Even though we don’t have the chance to capture them very much, we’re always head-over-heels for surprise proposals. We were so incredibly lucky to capture Adrian and Bridget’s sweet proposal right in the middle of one of their mini session with us last fall and it was such a sweet, unreal moment.

Even though the world has been upside-down for the last year, seeing cuties like Adrian and Bridget still letting love win by embarking on a new journey in their relationship is always something so unbelievably special for us. Cheers to love enduring everything and anything that life throws at us, even a pandemic!

Caleb + Erin, an Enchanting Desert Engagement

In the middle of last fall, we got to hang out with long-time sweethearts Caleb and Erin on one of the gorgeous evenings of all. We adored soaking up every last second with these Nebraska cuties and hearing all about their amazing little journey together.

Even though Caleb and Erin sort-of knew each other in college, they didn’t officially meet until after graduation when they were both out on the town with mutual friends. Caleb immediately caught Erin’s eye and after a few drinks (and some shameless flirting), Erin made her move with a kiss at closing time (we LOVE this power move). And the next day, Caleb texted Erin thus beginning their wonderful little love story.

About four years and two dogs later, Caleb proposed during a hike in Albuquerque in the middle of March 2020. Erin said yes, but had to journey back home to Nebraska where she was still living at the time. However, these two didn’t get to see each for ten whole weeks when everything completely shut down due to the pandemic. After weathering some of the worst of 2020, these two officially made Albuquerque their home and started planning their next chapter together.

We can’t wait for Caleb and Erin’s beautiful Hacienda Doña Andrea wedding this fall, cheers to these cuties and to going the distance for love!

Cait + Lana, an Evening in the Desert

California cuties Cait and Lana, brought a little extra heat to the desert earlier this fall and we were so freaking excited to capture them and their pups. This dreamy little evening out in one of our squad’s favorite Southwest spots was what we absolutely needed this year.

Originally from the West Coast, these two made a quick stop in New Mexico early this fall and we were so thrilled when they asked us to photograph this gorgeous little session. We can’t wait to see where Lana and Cait end up next, we know it’ll be beyond beautiful and so dang epic.

Tim + Noelle, a Rad Couples Session in the Desert

If you know anything about us, you know that we LOVE hanging with the raddest couples around and we love running around in the desert with them even more. Spending the most perfect evening with Tim and Noelle, the coolest lovers around, was literally how we’d want to spend every single week night forever.

These hot babes have been married for 2 years, but dang do they just give off those madly-in-love feels. They brought their killer style and downright unreal power couple vibes to one of our fave spots, so yeah, we’re just a little obsessed. If you’re looking for married couple inspo, just take a glance at these two because Tim and Noelle only have eyes for each other and wow is it truly captivating to see.

So grateful to have crossed paths with these two for most crazy beautiful session in NM. Hey Tim and Noelle, we’re gonna need to make some more magic with you guys real soon!

Andrew + Shay, a Breezy Desert Engagement

Last month, we spent a windy little day out in the desert with Andrew + Shay and dang was it magical! These two lovers brought all the love and the giggles to their beyond beautiful engagement session.

In a true love-at-first-sight situation, Andrew and Shay met at a destination wedding in Mexico last November and after four magical days of walking on the beach, dancing, and getting to know each other, Andrew plucked up the courage to go after Shay’s heart against all odds (swoon!). He proved himself to be everything that Shay could have imagined, he is consistent, sweet, and family-oriented. And to Andrew, Shay is beautiful, kind, and driven. These two went the distance for each other and when we mean distance, we mean literally because these babes live 1,500 miles apart. After much time spent in a long distance relationship, these babes are ready to make it official and its going to be absolutely stunning!

They say when you meet your person you just know, and dang did Shay + Andrew KNOW that they were meant for each other. We can’t wait for their sweet, intimate, fall wedding in a matter of weeks!

Aidan + Victoria, a Desert Couples Session

Exploring new spots and old favorites has been one of the best things about all of the incredible little sessions this summer!

We got to spend the most amazing evening at Petroglyph National Monument with Victoria and Aidan and we were absolutely in Babetown! These two hunnies have been together for 4 whole years and let’s just say they are still absolutely smitten with each other. And our girl Victoria looked extra stunning with just a little glam from our love Betty Rose by Alanna.

Sam + Marisa, a Magical Oregon Coast Evening

Its been a long few months without being able to travel, but we finally go to venture up to the Pacific Northwest earlier this month and it was an absolutely heavenly! On top of the gorgeous coastal views and forest scenery, we got to spend the most amazing evening with lovers Sam and Marisa.

Event though these two now live in California, they were spending a little time in Oregon so we couldn’t resist meeting up for golden hour on that iconic Oregon Coast. Sam and Marisa originally met in the video game section at a Target (which we think is honestly so freaking sweet) and Sam just couldn’t leave without getting Marisa’s number! Now just a few years later, these two share the most beautiful, fun, downright genuine connection around.

We loved hanging with you babes on beach, here’s to many more years of love cuties!!!

Angie + Brittany, a Summer Engagement

Brittany and Angie, two of the kindest souls share the sweetest love story and its one that we admire deeply. From the first moments of reaching out, to us to photographing their engagement, to handling everything 2020 has thrown at them with grace, these lovers are by far a rarity in this world.

Long before they were planning (and then re-planning) their wedding, Angie and Brittany first met in 2014 while both studying at The University of New Mexico and instantly became friends. After knowing each other for awhile, they took a leap of faith and kissed for the first time during a night of tequila and Taco Bell with friends. The rest of the puzzle pieces fell easily into place as Brittany and Angie realized just how compatible they are and continued to fall deeply in love with one another. Last year, after they went ring shopping together, Brittany proposed to Angie before her birthday in December and then Angie proposed to Brittany in January.

The simple pleasures that have brought Angie and Brittany even closer together include cooking delicious meals together (and enjoying amazing food together in general), hanging out in their garden (which sounds like an absolute dream btw), reading and watching TV together, and sharing a deep love for pets (including their fur babies Mimi and Indica). And next to all of these amazing wonderful passtimes are also some incredibly shared emotional joys that Brittany and Angie do together including making each other laugh, being good to one another, taking the time to care deeply about their loved ones, and expanding their horizons to make their community and the world a better place for everyone.

Angie and Brittany, you two astonish us with your kindness, compassion, and ability to always remember what truly matters in this life, no matter what it throws at us. Your wedding plans might look different than you anticipated, but we have no doubt that your day of love will be profound, genuine, and above all beyond beautiful. We’re so lucky to know such stellar human beings, we can’t wait to capture the beginning of your next chapter together!

Engagement Inspo - FAQ

Earlier this year we collaborated with our pals at Rocky Mountain Bride for a collaborative feature on our favorite engagement session locations, you can view that here. Following that, we opened up a Q+A on our Instagram for your questions on all things engagement sessions. We’ve sat down and come up with answers to all of your pressing questions with this sweet little guide. Cheers to all the newly engaged babes out there, this special blog is just for you!

Q: What’s the best time of day for engagement photos?
We prefer the evening light at dusk and into blue hour. This is when the light is at its most golden and softest, thus creating a very neutral, flattering, and most evenly dimensional light to work with.

Q: How do you make sure your couples feels comfortable especially if one is more shy?
This scenario is actually very common and typically the norm, as we usually rarely have a couple where both the bride and groom are super outgoing and extroverted. We've had tons of practice with the more introverted and shy type & we’d definitely say that making sure you find a photographer/photography team that you connect with and feel comfortable with will help make things feel more natural.

A few questions to mull over when considering a photographer should include: What do you feel when you look through their website and images? How do they make you feel corresponding through email and phone conversations? Typically those feelings are good indicators of what you'll feel at the session. Are you going through the galleries and images and seeing that they are excelling in connection and interaction? Or are the images more stale and impersonal? Chances are that if you get those warm and fuzzy vibes while looking through their work & interacting with them, that is most likely what you'll get at your shoot!

Through the years we've found that keeping the session more active and finding ways for our couples to interact with each other by giving easy prompts like: “Scott look over at Emma, Emma look at us, Scott place your forehead on Emma's temple, kiss her cheek or anywhere but her lips, whisper your favorite breakfast meal in your sexiest voice, now lock hands and walk towards us, look at each other, look at us!” Prompts like this will keep the session light hearted, silly, and fun, taking the shoot away from a stiff, awkward forced vibe to having your shy fiance come out of his or her shell for a bit!

Q: Suggestions for great outfits, designers, and style?
If you hired a professional wedding photographer, they should more than likely have tons of wardrobe and outfit ideas, suggestions and insight. With the ALP team, we gift our couples with a welcome box that includes a custom wedding magazine/guide covering things specifically like engagement sessions and wardrobe, timing, details and all things engagement session! A lot of our brides tend to wear brands like Anthropologie, Lulus, & Madewell to name a few! We'll cover outfits and styling in a little more detail below, but keeping it minimal, neutral, and something that is complementing to the location is always a safe start. You can always layer on accessories like a nice statement necklace, fun hat, unique belt or pretty scarf. If you are more of a patterns and bold colors type of girl (or guy!) then we’d maybe suggest keeping your location more simple to let you and your fiance's fun personality shine

Q: Speaking of location, what is the best location to capture all the southwest charm in New Mexico?

The Southwest charm is so broad and its hard for us to say what our favorite truly is . When we think Southwest, our minds immediately goes to our vast vegetation, the desert & yuccas/chamsia/cholla trifecta and the rolling hills and the views, but others think ristras, crushed adobe, and pueblo revival architecture. There is no right or wrong answer just tons of options so for the desert look, we’d go either far west for flat desert or far east for the rolling hills at the base of the Sandia mountains (that still provides the chamisa/cholla/yucca combo & where you can still get a desert vibe, strangely enough!). For adobe and ristras and that quintessential New Mexico look, we'd reccomend Old Town Albuquerque or downtown Santa Fe. Look through your photographer’s galleries and see what location you connect to and are attracted to the most. We put together a guide to some our most treasured locations with our friends at Rocky Mountain Bride, so more inspo, follow the link below!

Alicia Lucia’s Guide to the Top New Mexico Engagement Spots

Q What’s thebest attire for men?
This again ties back to personality and location chosen. We've had grooms show up to shoots in a 3 piece suit, rocking that dapper look, to grooms shutting it down in a jean jacket and beanie. Get with your photographer, nail down a location, and then base your attire on what the overall look your trying to achieve while still keeping your personality and the location in mind.

Q: How do we make sure our style doesn't clash with the location?
As mentioned earlier, a good photographer will be basing the location options off of your attire & this is why good/open communication is important and constant correspondences is so necessary. If your photographer is not in contact with you or helping/preparing you for your engagement session, then we'd definitely re-evaluate.

Q: How do we incorporate props?
Cover that with your photographer first to make sure a) the location allows it and doesn't have any restrictions and b) that the location is flattering/complimenting to the prop you are wanting to incorporate.

Q: How many photos should we expect to receive from one engagement session?
We typically deliver anywhere between 50-100 photos.

Q: How far in advance should we book?
Our brides book their wedding dates with us about a year to a year and a half out with their engagement sessions being booked about 4-8 months before their wedding

Q: What is the typical turn around for photos be? My sisters wedding photographer took a month.
We'd say that is probably average but we've worked hard to nail down our post wedding processing and have streamlined our process to a t so we can turn a round wedding galleries anywhere between a week to 3 weeks!
